My apologies if this thread is in poor taste, as I know plenty of you are purely collectors. Any cards you've managed to flip lately that you're proud enough to share?

I ended up buying a signed 1990 Pro Sport Pedro Martinez (see above) last month that I intended on PCing. I changed my mind, though, and decided to send it to COMC.
Woke up to this sale this morning:

Here's one of my best ones and it was sold recently. And already flipped once. And being flipped again.
Bought this in April 2023 for under $100 as PSA MIN SIZE NOT MET (N6). Immediately sent it to PSA and it gem'd.

I sold it in December for $900 (best offer on $1,199 asking price). :)!
New owner auctioned it in January, sold for $885. Oops.
NEW new owner has it up for sale now, $1,099.99. :coffee:

I don't typically buy to flip but sometimes stuff just falls in your lap. In 2022, a 'Grady Sizemore auto' saved search on ebay alerted me to an Upper Deck Hawaii Trade Show Triple Autograph of Lebron James/Grady Sizemore/Brady Quinn #'d /5. The BIN was only $220!
I couldn't believe it actually shipped. I kept it for a couple years because it fit into my collection but ended up selling it last year to another Cleveland enthusiast for $1,500.

I bought 12 1899/1908 Stollwerck cards for $52 just two years ago ($4.33 a card)
I graded the 1899 da Vinci for $15 with SGC
So, all in at $19.33 for that card.
I sold it a few weeks ago for $850

as a newbie i have to ask.....
people don't get upset seeing the card they bought featured in a brag thread ?
seems like begging for trouble.....?
this forum gets lotsssssssssss of lookers....lol
the deals are done but seems like a risk for sour grapes....
or it doesn't work that way?

I wouldn't. If I missed out on the previous great deal on a card, I ended up buying later at a higher price, so be it.
I have bought and sold for profit hundreds of times if not more as I used to run a side business mainly on Ebay from 2001 until about 2012. The only "bragging" I have done was with friends or others in the reselling business while sharing successes with each other.

I have been open with people that bought cards from me for 3-5x what I initially paid with exactly how much I got the card for. Never had a deal fall through because of this or anyone get upset.
Similarly when I sell a card to someone and they tell me later they sold it on for a profit I never get bothered at all. I just congratulate them.

If you sell/trade a card, you no longer own it.
If you become upset because you undersold it or didn't get enough trade value from it, you should've done your due diligence.
If the market/player value just changed (unexpectedly), can't beat yourself over something you couldn't have envisioned.

My most-recent "noteworthy" flip is probably the 2024 TC Olympics Caroline Marks Superfractor Auto.
Purchased for $1661.25 via eBay in August 2024.
Sold for $6000 F/F in November 2024.
It was actually a tough one to move because it was intended to be a long-term PC card but I couldn't pass up on the sale as the profits allowed me to pick up a different PC card (one that I had wanted for a couple years).

I very rarely buy cards to flip them. I will typically only do this if the deal is so good I know I can just take it to a dealer at the next show I'm attending and make a decent profit on it with minimal risk. This hasn't really happened for me on a big card since this one:
I flipped a 2018 Heritage Black Refractor Acuna PSA 10 I snagged off Myslabs for $1500 in August 2023 when it was comping for $2600 then proceeded to sell it to a dealer at a show two months later for $2200 cash.
I still have no clue why that MySlabs seller listed the card that low and I thought for sure he was going to cancel the sale. Funny thing about that is when I went to windmill slam that buy it now price someone else had put an offer in.......... on a card already priced $1,100 under comps. Some people are just too greedy.

I think my best flip was 2023 Bowman Draft Sapphire. Got my one box from the Topps website and sold it on eBay this past year during the Skenes hype train for like $1,100 or something like that

You'd probably laugh at me if I told you I got almost 6k for the zions. Not pictured are 2 silver prizm psa 10 at 2500 each. In total, 11k. I got an early start before the covid boom.
Oh, also got 250 each for the tatis. I must have had 40 or so psa 10s. Half I sold early and the other half, got 250 each.
Also came up on the donovan Mitchell. Bought about 300 or so optic rcs off and on through comc. They were 2-3 dollars. Graded the good ones. Probably had about 50 psa 10s I recall selling for over 100 each. I also had around 100 tatums but sold this raw for a profit. Be glad you didn't pay the 200-250 per during the height of the boom. I think I bought like 50 or 60 of the complete sets with the tatis rc. All looked gem mint and they were after grading.

If someone else finds a card I very badly want at a great price for them and I buy it at a price I'm comfortable with, I'm not going to be upset with them for making money off of my purchase.
If a seller is bragging about blatantly ripping off someone who didn't know better, that's another story entirely.
I say this as someone who collects and buys to flip. Almost all of my buys are from eBay or card show dealers.

Everything I sold during the pandemic was a massive flip. One major buyer here in Toronto banned me from selling to them because they bought a ton of slabs from me and held thinking the pandemic boom was permanent, only to lose their asses on it.

I was lucky enough to purchase the 2019 Topps NOW Rookie Cup 1/1 Gold Auto of Fernando Tatis Jr. for $1499 from the Topps site. I had it graded and it came back PSA 10. I sold it in 2021 (I think) for $10,000. I was actually hesitant to sell it at the time. If not for this sale, I would've lost about $3,000 on my Tatis collection.

Hernandez was the main guy for awhile and had comps of Trout, Arod and Bo Jackson, so people were falling over themselves for anything of his at the time. Some kid in FL got it in a group break, posted on Facebook.
I don't even have facebook, but a customer of mine was picking up an order and let me know. That night, we got on a call and he wanted $20k. We negotiated $15k and if it got a 10, I would send him another $2k. Grading cost $1200.
Had it on ebay for a couple of months, best offer I received was $36k.
Contacted Goldin as they were about to run one of their elite auctions. I was not expecting the card to go as high as it did, but I wasn't complaining. I even thought I might not get paid, but the check showed up at my door about a month after the auction ended.

On a side note, there's deals to be had on eBay. Buying in lots is one way to do it, as well as looking for serial #ed autos about to end

2011 UD MLS boxes right as the Covid boom was kicking off. Found around 30 boxes at a vendor mall for $25-30 a box, was selling them for close to $200 a box. Opened some to pull the Alex Morgan RC. Was selling them for $80 each raw and had maybe 25 of them from the boxes I opened. Stopping at that vendor mall was a great decision. Also bought several 2001 UD Golf boxes from the same guy for less than $40 a box.

Not exactly "noteworthy" but here's a fun flip that occurred within the past ~2 weeks (from purchase to flip).
2/4: Purchased 2024 TC Olympics Caity Simmers Red Refractor Auto /5 PSA 9 for $125 via eBay. Transferred to PSA vault so no sales tax and paid $5 to have it shipped to me.
2/11: Received card from PSA and listed onto eBay.
2/16: Received initial offer from buyer.
2/19: After a few days of negotiating, settle on a price. Sold for $350.
Many assert that there's no opportunities in the current market (singles or wax) but there's abundant opportunities IMO.

They pay you a few days after the buyer does. If the buyer takes a long time to pay, you'll need to wait a long time to get paid. A couple of years ago, I had an awful situation in which a buyer never paid and my card ended up being relisted (against my will, too). Sold for almost 5k less on the second go-around because the player ended up with a season-ending injury shortly after the first auction ended. So yeah, Goldin kinda sucks. There's no reason bidders' credit cards shouldn't already be on file before they're allowed to bid.

Just chasing crumbs for fun these days but back when I had a LCS I had a few biggies.
around 2007 I was able to buy 4 full boxes + some loose packs of 86-87 Fleer Hoops for just under 2k total and was able to turn 3 full boxes into around 20k at the time
There was a great buy of Ramly tobacco cards that netted me around 15k

I don't fault anyone for wanting to share a "win the lottery" type flip story. Human nature. Folks just need to be careful not advertising too loudly where they're regularly finding stuff else they will have people "jumping the claim". If anything, it's the person who initially sold it cheap that would potentially be cringing. The final buyer knew what they were getting and at what cost. Often, in this hobby, it goes both ways for most where it's a combination of finding a deal/buying at the right time and also selling too early/late. In short, you win some, you lose some.

Not really sure what's normal for them. I've only used them twice and both times it took about a month and was paid via check in the mail. Both were years ago before they became what they are today, so who knows.
If wanting to consign to Goldin, I would only use them for high end items ($10k+). They have a ton of high end buyers who only look for high end items.
Even if you have a $3k card, put it on ebay.

Nice flip for you, but how does this even happen? I still can't believe how much faith people put into grading companies.
Human opinion. Or human error.
If they measure every card precisely and accurately, then there must be an opinion (or error) made when the N6 card doesn't N6 the next time.
If they don't measure every card, well then, the N6 designation becomes pretty untrustworthy.
I've re-submitted 3-4 N6 cards and gotten a number grade the second attempt each time.
I've resubmitted one N9 card (for missing Topps Foil) and after several attempts, it slipped through finally and got a number grade.
I bought this card raw a long time ago and submitted it twice. Imagine giving up after the first attempt? There's no grading fee charge for N6, so just try again!
