View Full Version : Marvel Uncut Sheet Thread

This is intended to be an all-things uncut sheet thread, not sure if anyone else collects these. Discussion about sheets, pics, and so forth.
Would like to keep it to just Marvel sheets. This thread can act as an archive/reference for these uncut sheets. Talking about the full-set sheets, not the 4-panel and 9-panel promo sheets which are more common. Uncut sheets are very interesting not only to collect, but they also convey helpful info. They can inform/explain error cards and in some cases reveal the degree of shortprinting for some cards in a set (can think of at least 3 sheets in Marvel that do this). So it’s helpful to have images of them.
I will attach a “Rarity rating” to each sheet, from 1 (pretty common) to 5(exceedingly hard to find), from longtime observations of sheets on the market. This is just a rating how hard it is to find, which is not necessarily the same thing as price/value. For example a 2024MM Grego base sheet I would give a rarity of 1, since it is not hard to find right now, although it is still quite pricey- maybe $1k or more.

Top 3 rows are the prototypes, bottom row is the Cap blue back promo. Some might be surprised that the print run of single prototype is equal to the print run of the cap promo (latter sells for a lot more).

Yea that’s the problem with uncut sheets- they basically take up half a room (!). I don’t have nearly enough wall space to hang them all up so they’re mostly just framed on the ground being stored. They are also more cumbersome to transact in than a small trading card since you can’t just put one in a bubble mailer….have to either ship it flat in a huge box or rolled in a long tube. But I’m a big fan of them. The 90s Fleer/Skybox ones more than the newest UD ones, but I collect any of them. I like how the whole set is summarized in one piece at a glance.

One cool thing with sheets is the whole sheet takes on the material of the card. So those first two sheets are like a whole sheet of acetate, and the Clear Chrome is made out of…whatever that Sign & Glassworks ‘Clear Chrome’ material is, not sure what it is really.

Note: the above set is spread over 5 sheets. As seen here, no card is short printed.
Sheet A is 90 diff cards, each of the next four sheets are (18 diff x 5 = 90 cards).
So total diff = 90+18x4 = 162 cards, the set total. We assume 5 sheet A’s were made for every
sheet B (or C,D, or E).

Some amazing stuff there Dyna. That Series 2 Base Sheet A is my fave.
Totally agree about the A sheet. Being all different and the first 90 cards of the set, it really is the “meat” of the set and displays the best. (That’s why I made that pic bigger :)). The rest of the sheets are somewhat fluff, between the battles, item cards, and checklists, plus repeated cards.
Onto another group, this is every 1993 Marvel Masterpieces sheet that exists, I went hard on 93MM being one of my fav sets. But the rarity values deserve some discussion, and I’ll get to that below.

Most of these 93’s came out of that uncut sheet find out of Michigan not too long ago, where someone came into a lot of sheets whose dad worked for Fleer back in the day. All of the above except the base w/foil and Dyna Etch sheet. That is why, for example, the base No Foil sheet is listed as Rarity 1…there have been many on the market over the last couple years, almost one actively on the market at any time. This is also why the 92MM base sheet above is only a 2..also came from that find. Not many of the 93MM promo sheets did hit the market though.

With the purpose of this thread as an archive/reference, I want to branch out to any pics of Marvel uncut sheets that can be found online (not just mine). Feel free to post what you can find, not already seen above!
The below in this post are NOT mine. They are however some of my fav examples of uncut sheets because they reveal previously unknown shortprinted ratios of 90s Marvel inserts, even if slight.
1994 Fleer Ultra X-Men Team Triptych (Walmart) Sheet
Bishops and Professor X card are veryyyy slightly shortprinted at a 16/17 ratio! (can you see why based on the sheet?)

1995 Marvel Masterpieces Canvas Sheet
The ones not duplicated in the 12-block at lower right are each shortprinted at a 4/5 ratio: #2 Beast, #3 Bishop, #4 Cable, #7 Gambit, #9 Human Torch, #12 Jubilee, #16 Psylocke, #17 Punisher, #19 Surfer, #22 War Machine

That 95MM canvas sheet was up on ebay very briefly years back, wish I would have bought it, but oh well. One reason for this thread: if I never saved the image from that ebay listing, this canvas sheet image would be nonexistent, it would not be online to find. The sheet itself is surely buried in someone’s black hole collection. It’s nice to have even images of rare uncut sheets, they can reveal info about sets like in this case.

I know right [emoji23] honest question, why in the world do they flip rows upside down like that. Never did get that.
The trick to counting that is take the whole middle section out: there are 6 large blocks of 12, one for each card. So that’s all even. What is remaining is the string of cards going around the border like this
https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20250302/20f3086078cdb1e038f19ab346d53c97.jpg
Inside the pink box, if you start at the upper left, wind your way around the pink snake, it is the 6-card set in order, one after the next. But once you get to the lower left at the end, it stops at Iceman, which is #4. It’s missing the last 2 in that final 6-card set…a #5 Professor X and #6 Bishop. Those are the 2 very slight shortprints.

There are definitely some of the 1980's Comic Images Marvel uncut sheets out there. The card fronts on these (usually 45 card) sets, which were basically the only Marvel card sets in the 80's, hold rehashed, unevenly recolored comic art, but the B&W puzzle backs can be quite striking, seen as one piece. Some, including this uncut sheet of the Mike Zeck set, if I'm not mistaken, actually feature new illustrations drawn especially for card set.

There are same-era late 80's CI sheets for Ghost Rider, John Byrne, Captain America, Excalibur, and McFarlane II shown in this thread.

Where art meets uncut sheets! That’s a great one, worthy of being framed with the Punisher back showing imo.
That BO link should suffice. CI marvel sheets seem to have been more publicly distributed than Fleer/Skybox ones (many of which werent at all and had to come from the company via employees, bankruptcy etc), hence you see the CI somewhat more often. I would blanket assign a rarity level of 1-3 for the Comic Images sheets, with the majority in the 1-2 range. Although there may be a certain few that are hard to find (Im not an expert in them as much).

Incredible stuff man! Great addition to the archive and solid info too.
I am blown away by the 94 Holofoil sheets. The brothers Hildebrandt sigs are a perfect touch.
I have never been lucky enough to land those silver Holofoil sheets. I would assign them a 5 rarity rating. I have a question for you- do you think the gold and bronze sheets take on the same format as the silver? Are there even gold and bronze sheets, have you ever seen them? I have never seen either.
The 95 Metal (test?) sheets are remarkable and never heard of them. The 95 Chromium sheet is on my list of next one to pick up :) Enjoying seeing new sheets, hope people will keep em coming!

Thanks Xiarmadillo!
I'm sure there are uncut sheets for the Gold and Bronze holofoils...I've never seen them though! If a collector has them, that would be so crazy!
A collector was able to snag 1 (but not both!) of the Silver sheets a few months back for only $80 or so on eBay...! Impeccable timing by him heh.
As for the chromium...I should have been more specific with my wording. Recall that the set has 2 promos - the Cyclops & the Wolverine base cards w/ the introduction to the set on the back.
https://i.ebayimg.com/images/g/agEAAOSwtgFiBrXJ/s-l1600.jpg
THAT is the Wolverine I was referencing, not the triangular Wolverine shown on my sheet. THAT wolverine w/ the blue bottom doesn't show on my sheet, because it sits on a completely different set - the 1995 Fleer Ultra Spider-Man Masterpieces inserts uncut sheet. I can't recall how many cards it took, maybe 1-3 at most, but it sat on that sheet in the bottom right corner. Sadly I don't have a photo to share...
...as for that triangular Wolverine on my sheet - it was meant to be a tacky add-on to the display box, given to retailers to attach to the box. Recall the Gambit art on the box:
https://i.ebayimg.com/images/g/RswAAOSwwrNgF2O~/s-l1600.jpg
The triangular Wolverine was meant to be placed on the box, but as you can see, they edited in the card (+Rogue and Cable) directly on the art instead.
DynaEtch
03-20-2025, 01:15 AM
Oh man on the box art, I never would have thought of that.
Thanks for clarifying the Wolverine. That’s odd they put it on a whole different set’s sheet, but does make sense both being chromium cards. I have never seen that 1995 FUSM Masterpieces sheet anywhere- if you ever find a pic, make sure to post it here!
Silver Holofoil sheet for $80 is downright crazy…arghhh how did I miss that. Of course it would have bugged me a bit to have 1 and not the other. What’s really strange is after all this scouring and following the market….I have yet to find a set of even 94MM base sheets (rarer than one might think?).

Haha, our local comic book shop definitely stuck the triangular Wolvie on the display box, because I remember asking for the box once it was empty so I could take that off of it and add it to my set (which I'd purchased complete as, to this day, I've never actually opened a box of X-Men Ultra Chromium). I still have the oddly-shaped little fella. As I remember, it was affixed to the box with a couple of pieces of double-sided tape, which I'm assuming Fleer provided.
Moving on, these are not an uncut sheets proper, but since the actual sheets haven't been posted here and this is probably what they look like, here goes:
https://i.imgur.com/EbKAJ07.jpg?1 https://i.imgur.com/CoxigLW.jpg?1
These two hobby shop exclusive wall posters comprise the 1992 Marvel Universe III set from Skybox with the cosmic background painted by none other than Joe Jusko.
Posters from this series, known as "Marvel Press Posters", were issued from around 1984 through 1996 or so in the standard size of 22x34, which I believe these are. The posters, manufactured and distributed to comic shops and subscription services by Marvel Comics themselves, usually released 3 or 4 different per month and cost approximately $4 when the line began and closer to $7 by the time it ended. All told, there were about 400 different posters usually focused on one or two characters or else a team. The vast majority of the art, if I'm not mistaken, was commissioned specifically for the poster series, but a lot of it ended up seeing print elsewhere.
Images originally created for Marvel trading cards appearing on these posters were few and far between but another one definitely exists featuring the Hildebrandt Brothers 9 card chase set from Fleer Ultra X-Men 1993 as a single image.
These two 1992 Marvel Universe III posters were sold together, very unusual for the line, and probably cost about $10 for the pair, maybe a little more. I attained my set a little over 10 years ago when I bought out the (large) remaining stock of posters of a longtime local comic shop that was closing down after about 25 years in business.

Thanks for the confirmation! I was speaking with great confidence but it escapes my memory banks and it was mostly from a position of logic and intuition! Pretty cool to know that they did end up sending it to the retailers anyway!
The background behind the Marvel Press posters is also much appreciated! I think I saw those exact 92MU posters rolled on eBay a month or two ago with an initial bid satisfied for $100 each - a bit pricey for posters so I didn't fight for them. I have a couple of the 94 Flair posters and, not having the sheets themselves, am very happy for them as 94 Flair was one of my first core memories for trading cards.

Here would be some of my grail uncut sheets. I’m satisfied with even a pic of them…don’t need to own them, I just want to see them.
WANTED:
-1992 Marvel Universe colored holograms
-1993 Marvel Universe #H-IV holo (this might be the “grailiest” of grail sheets ever
-1994 Masterpieces gold or bronze holofoil sheets, if they exist
-1995 Masterpieces Holoflash
-1996 Masterpieces Gold Gallery
-1996 Masterpieces Double Impact (especially important since it’ll reveal the #5,6 vs #1,2,3,4 SP ratio)
I've seen the 92MU holos, the MU93 hologram, and the 96MM gold gallery. I'll see about providing photos.

Wow never saw these! I’m blown away here. I think you’re almost certainly right they came from larger sheets, but since I never saw a full sheet of either the H-IV holo or 1996 Gallery, this will definitely do.
Your 3D holo sheets are amazing- whether they came from cards or cards on comics….post away! Some of my fav uncut sheets are the holo ones- those Polaroid ones included. They just reallllly pop.
So of the main remaining ones I definitely want to eventually see, the 1996MM double impacts is probably at the very top of my list. I know the #1-4 are shortprinted in that set, but I want to know by exactly how much. The sheet has never been seen anywhere to my knowledge. The 1995 Holoflash (which would be a friggin awesome sheet) at least has an entry on the nslists Jeff Allender page that specifies the breakdown cards on it, and the slight short printings.

If you can find the Wolvie doohickey thing, could you post a pic of it? Don’t go out of your way if it’s buried in storage or anything, but just curious to see it. I’m looking at sealed boxes on ebay, and can’t tell if the wolvie on top is that, or just part of the box art. (Would it be under or over the factory seal?).

I have one if jdandns doesn't get to it before I can. It's very similar to the card on the box art, although perhaps a bit more skewed. And no, they did not come attached from distributors so it would have to be something the retailer did themselves.

Just to keep one of my favorite sets going, I do have a 2nd sheet of the 1995 Fleer Ultra X-Men All Chromium, except there's a difference - the framed one is a post-production sheet, with front and back and what you'd get as the cards after cutting. This one, however, is fully colored yet semi-transparent! It's essentially an acetate!

Is true there are two different common versions of the Chromium sheet? (Outside your rare acetate sheet). One with the promos, one without? Because I keep seeing this one on ebay which looks like a normal 95 X-Men Chromium sheet but without the promos.

I can't imagine there are that many people self-cutting the promos off for display-ability, but I also don't think they produced 2 separate sheets. My best guess is that they cut the promos off at some part of the process, enough to the point where it is discernible in the population.
I avoid the non-promos out of OCD :D
As for the acetate one - I had it on my radar for a long while after realizing the distinction, but it was at a price point that I didn't like (450-500?). I tried to make a deal with the seller but he was pretty adamant on the price, was just waiting for the right buyer. Many many months later I saw that the price was lowered to 350 and I jumped.

That would be me! A few years ago the last one I was tracking eventually sold, I think also in the 4-500 range. Of course I was sad that it finally went, but I was much earlier in my uncut sheet journey so I didn't feel compelled to get it, especially at that price (I think sheets were in the 75-150 range at the time). Fast forward and I got the grail holofoils, and given their dual signed state, I jumped immediately when I saw this one listed.

Lucky you! Ok in that case I’m not down about the sale then, going to someone with such a collecting passion for uncut sheets as you. That’ll fittingly go next to the 94 Hildbrandt Holofoil sheets. I had at least one of them when I acquired the large dealer back-stock of posters about 15 years ago, but I think I sold it back when.
In retrospect, I probably should've held on to it. It really is a terrific image by two masters at the top of their game.

Those sales are insane, and I know exactly what you are referring to. The “smh” moment after finding some quickly bought sheets on ebay sold listings. It seems uncut sheets are particularly vulnerable to this for whatever reason. Probably because many non-collectors out there come into possession of them- from comic shops not knowing about cards, to found thrifting at flea markets or yard/estate sales, or relative worked at the card company back in the day, etc. And also, uncut sheets in sports get little to no recognition (see how cheap junk-era sheets like 1989 topps baseball go for, it’s like nothing). So people might not know marvel sheets even from the “junk-90s” can go for a lot, and list them for a few tens or a hundred bucks. When in reality a 1992 impel x-men base sheet I was just referring to is worth up to $1.5k, for example.
(although I should say that in sports, interest in vintage sheets and ones with key RCs/players like Jordan, Kobe, or Griffey have gained quite a lot of momentum in recent years…uncut sheets in sports finally getting deserved attention, although it’s mainly just for those two kinds- vintage or key player sheets).
Anyway, in my case the smh ebay moment was like 1.5 years ago I think. The 94FUXM team triptych sheet I posted above sold, in a group of sheets that also included a ridiculous sheet of the 9 1994 Fleer Amazing Spiderman large 9-panel Masterprints (so like an uncut sheet of smaller uncut sheets); among some others. Total price of all that? Like $250. I would have paid like $1k+ for the Walmart team triptych sheet alone. I at least saved the picture! (That shows the one card is very slightly shortprinted). The pics of sheets alone are cherished, and a primary reason for this thread.
Another d’oh moment earlier this year- someone on heritage got a steal with the 92 Impel X-Men hologram sheet signed by Jim Lee…a mere $400. The title just said Proof Sheet, not uncut sheet, so I didn’t find it until late. I actually did come across it during extended bidding, and was like “wow, I’m gonna go all in on this one!”….to only then learn Heritage has a silly rule that you can only participate in extended bidding if you previously bid during the regular duration. So I couldn’t bid. So the winner of that got it for *much* cheaper as a result…lucky them (!).

The 5-card Spidey promo set were the only cards released by Impel:
In 1992, Impel Marketing, Inc. held the license for general Marvel trading cards, while Comic Images held the Spider-Man trading card license.
Note that Impel renamed itself to SkyBox International in April 1992. Marvel purchased Fleer in July 1992, and then purchased SkyBox in March 1995 and merged them to form Fleer/SkyBox. So this five-card promo set was the only Spider-Man card set ever produced by Impel.

I was debating starting a new thread, but I’ll ask it here.
I am looking to frame some uncut sheets so the back is also visible. (Since the 90s uncut sheets like the above have the card backs on the reverse).
My question: how do I even do this? What kind of frame is that even called? I can’t seem to find much on the custom framing sites I use, all just have the regular solid backing.
I’m trying to picture this in my head, but I guess it would be 2 panes of acrylic (or glass), and a mat as well, betweeen them, with an outer frame? Just not sure how to do this.
