Love this kid's ambition.
Prime never played 100% of snaps. Maybe return kicks too!
Travis Hunter could potentially be the OROY and DROY making NFL history.
What do you think should he play both offense and defense 100%
Should he get two game checks too? :)!

You left "wants" out of your title. It'll be up to the team that drafts him.

Yeah, no way he's more than a token WR play.
Poor guy has about a 7th grade education when you see him in interviews. He can play, though.
He'd be injured by the first month doing both. No team is doing that with a high pick. The snap count in pro vs college games is drastically different, and he won't be 20, 21, 22 for long.
Purely talk.

Life comes full circle, doesn't it? When he was with the Cowboys, Coach Prime would line up at WR from time to time. I'm actually surprised given his speed they didn't line him up at WR more...
But yeah, other than perhaps playing WR out of certain formations to make the defense have to make adjustments, there's no way that young man is playing consistently on both sides of the ball in today's NFL.

Also, you don't get "scrimmage" games in the NFL like college. Playing against schools where your talent is twice is good, don't have to work to get open, have the second half off, etc. Every snap in the NFL is going to be grind.

Anybody who thinks this has any chance of happening I have beachfront property in Arizona to sell you
They will play him, like when Devin Hester came in to the league. He will be a CB, and they will find ways to gimmick him in to an offense.
Starter at CB, part time WR with a handful of plays.

I'm pretty sure Deion actually did play a couple full games for the cowboys, including returns.
Sustainable? who knows, but I cant wait to find out! Love this kids attitude.

Hunter comes across very poorly (https://www.youtube.com/shorts/pjkx6_21x7Y). He's slurring his words and sitting on camera in pajama pants. He interviews bad, again and again. That's all I'm saying.
Here, Deion says the same thing (https://www.youtube.com/shorts/D4nnMfpDPgc) - but with eloquence and understandability. That's a major reason he was - and is - so popular.
Jeanty's response (https://www.youtube.com/shorts/f9tTM5lU_p4) is also much more smooth, well spoken. He is likely to be to be a very likeable star in the NFL(think Saquon).
Travis is a good player, and you don't need to talk/interview well to play DB in a basic sense... but he talks nonsense, is hard to understand, and comes across as simple. As I said, "guy has about a 7th grade education when you see him in interviews." This talk of playing substantial offense is either stupidity or he's making a misguided joke. It's honestly hard to tell as he often communicates like a grade school kid. Bottom line.
(fyi, not super hard to get a high gpa in psychology that he did at Jackson St... or anthropology at Colorado. There's a reason those degrees don't have real jobs after graduation, not that Hunter needs a trad job route. They're also very low level schools that accept almost anyone, over 85% of apps. It's not exactly like he goes to UMich or Stanford or something, lol.)
I hope he does well, but he needs to brush up on interviews and voice tonality as much as any on-field skill. NFL is more than just playmaking.

Travis is an interesting case because unlike a very top end corner prospect(Deion sanders) or top end wr prospect(calvin johnson, julio jones, chase, etc), he's not seen as a 100% sure thing star as either at the next level. And when you pick a corner or wr in the top 4 or so as he is expected to go, you want a higher level of confidence that they are more in the cant miss star category.
But most people think he will be a good and highly + starter eventually at either position if he did it full time. He's a high floor guy with respect to that.
So if you have a guy whose floor at either position is thought to be 'good' and yet people aren't as confident(especially at wr) that he will be an all pro type, well.....that raises the interesting possibility of trying to maximize value.
Think about baseball and WAR(just because football doesn't use WAR and it helps illustrate this). MVP caliber starting pitchers in any given year generate a WAR of 8-9, as do position players. But what if you had a player that could hit and pitch very well, but not at that sort of level. What if you had someone who was a position player/hitter like freddie freeman(4.5-5 WAR per year) and pitched like Johnny Cuetoa(4-4.5ish WAR average during his 7 year peak). Well now all of a sudden if he can do the Ohtani thing and stay on the field for both, you have a >9 WAR player. A real superstar in terms of the value they bring.
I think if *anyone* was the right guy to do it, it's him. A lot of people just don't think he is at the level of a top 5 pick based on his potential value at one or the other(especially as a wide out....he would probably be picked higher as a pure corner than pure wideout).
It's just a tricky case where if you don't use him for both on a large % of snaps you're probably bleeding some of his value away relative to how he is perceived and where he will be drafted. My gut says he will likely end up being a full time corner and occasional wide reciever(a la a primetime type), but if that's the case I don't know that I would love to use a top 4 pick on him. Not saying he can't be an all pro level corner(he may very well be), but I think most scouts would say he has more questions and perhaps a lower expected ceiling than most top 4 corners......

...he will likely end up being a full time corner and occasional wide reciever(a la a primetime type), but if that's the case I don't know that I would love to use a top 4 pick on him. ...Yes, teams have to believe he's an instant staring cornerback to pick him high first round, and I think a couple of teams will try it. That's such a valued piece of defense for any NFL team.
The main problem is for Hunter is that there are a few cornerbacks - from bigger schools, better teams - who are also viewed as fairly high first round talent... without the hoopla and hype.
If THunt ends up an average pro starter CB , that's acceptable for first round pick. CBs bust fairly high rate. He's tall for a CB, but he did well in NCAA.
I think another underrated factor is the importance of kick returns (NFL rules changes) and punt returns (biggest change of yardage of any NFL plays, highly important). Hunter can make big plays and has a role on special teams too (especially if it turns out he's not an elite CB... he'll be made to try it in practices and probably games). Hunter tries to say "I already have two jobs" as if he's above being a return man, but he's not a pro WR. In the NFL, you do whatever the team needs. His diva act will be put to rest if he's any less than elite CB material.
He'll be a gadget offense guy like a Percy Harvin or Devin Hester or Cordarelle as WR - nothing more. The best case career for Travis is obviously Deion (great CB, very minimal WR, great return man)... but he's more likely to track to Champ Bailey (great CB, tiny a bit of WR and returner work - although he did a lot of offense in college). Travis is that 90-95% cornerback and 5-10% WR/ST, as you and others have said. I think the offense part will be under 5% of his snaps, even early career ... definitely under 5% overall NFL career. It's just too easy to know when he goes in on offense it's a gimmick play, and pro defenses eat that stuff up for huge losses or even turnovers. It has to be decided what Hunter is, and team coaches will decide for him. He sure likes to talk as if he's the coach, though...

I've been arguing all along that no NFL team will let him play all of the snaps on both sides of the ball.
He will be starting CB in the NFL, and have 10-15 snaps and packages on offense. But no one can sustain that level in the NFL, their body can't handle the abuse.

I always thought it was difficult in high school particularly against high level competition. The coaches on offense would just rotate every play at wide receiver and just have them do a go route against a two-way defensive back. 100% in the NFL would be difficult
