That's a thoughtful take. And I can see where you're coming from. I've had similar experiences. But just because some groups of young people use it amongst themselves - no matter what race - as a term of endearment, doesn't mean it's acceptable in "many" areas. It's not. I guarantee you yourself would not feel comfortable going up to stranger who's Black and using it, even if you finish it with the "a". This is one of those things that we don't need to find a way to make ok for us to use.

You aren't equipped to have a real discussion about this, and your lack of awareness is showing. Because if you walked into a 7th grade classroom where the word is frequently used, you'd have a bunch of white kids saying "Nah Mr. Boxbuster, it's cool that we use that word. We're all friends. They let us use it." You'd have to come up with something better than "that's dumb" if you plan to change a mind or two.

It's not something I would ever say because it's just uncomfortable, but I certainly could have with no issues.

Nobody out in the real world actually cares, it's only the news media and chronically online people who make a big deal out of it.
