Back in the late 90s, my parents went to a dinner/fund raiser for the high school I attended. That year, the speaker was Bo Schembechler, and they were able to get a program signed and personalized for me on the area that was basically his biography with his photo in the program. Since I've been doing some grading, this might be a good time to get this authenticated, but does this seem like it would be something worthwhile getting done? I really wouldn't probably ever sell it, but it would be something my daughter would get when she inherits all of the junk I collect (LOL) and it might be good to have it encapsulated so she knows it's not completely worthless.

The price to have it authenticated through PSA is $30 + shipping both ways + an encapsulation fee depending on size; so probably about $60. His autograph prices are all over the map, but it looks like most are in the $50 range. So, it seems like it really depends on what you prefer for your collection. I would not worry so much about value down the road for your daughter as it seems like his autograph is not a tough one to find.

Well, it's framed now, so it's protected to a certain degree already. I have no questions of authenticity, since I really don't think my parents would have faked an auto of someone that was Michigan's football coach (and we lived in Ohio at the time LOL). I don't have anything authenticated right now from all of the stuff I have that are not officially produced cards, but I also don't have anything I didn't get directly from the person/band/player, so I've never really had cause to think about it
My rule of thumb. I only do stuff like this if i plan on selling any time soon. And even then, only if it adds net value.
If the auto looks legit, and sells for $40 uncertified. Would spending $60 to get it certed, but only increase the value by $20 make sense?
If its personalized to you, the open market value is already down on it. And if you trust your folks, and dont plan on selling. Then why bother?

That's the thought process help I was needing help with! Yeah, put that way, while it would be nice to have it authenticated just for posterity's sake, it doesn't help the actual value. Presentation would be the only benefit for it, as it looks a little silly in a frame that's too big for it, but that's not worth 60 bucks to upgrade, for sure.

I would never authenticate anything IP
It’s simply not worth it even if your kids or grandkids are the ones that want to sell it
Yes I realize if you have a Babe Ruth autograph that your Grandpa didn’t get authenticated you’re in trouble
I prefer not to spend my money on the 1 when 999 others (and Bo Schembechler qualifies) aren’t worth the extra money
