Despite how much I loathed last year, decided to try a couple boxes of SPx. To my surprise, this was actually a really fun product this time around. The base and parallels are nice and the inserts felt true to the product.

Not sure what the print run is, but I got some lower numbered stuff and have seen a good amount coming out from other openings.

Here's the breakdown:

1 Gold base parallel, 4 silver base parallels
1 Gold XRC parallel (1:144) Cossa
2 silver base RC parallels
7 base RC & 1 base XRC
4 less common inserts:
2 Bound for Glory (Will Smith)
1 Game Film (McDavid)
1 Excellence Redfined
4 Finite: 2 Blue /999, 1 Silver /399, 1 Tuxedo/Black /25 (St. Ivany RC)
5 Holoview FX: 2 vet base, 2 RC base (Stankoven) & 1 Blue /399 (Caulfield)
1 Grand Finale vet parallel /50 (Juuse Saros)
1 Super Scripts RC Auto - Joshua Roy sticker
1 Blue Rookie Auto - Liam Ohgren on card

I’m not sure how the market will be on singles to gauge the value of the boxes but purely from a design perspective I think these look really sharp and true to that old school SPx look.

That was my takeaway too, value may or may not be there, but on its own its a fun set.

I concur. I busted a 20 box case myself. Hit a Macklin Radiance and Will Smith Hologram. 1st thought was the actual nostalgia feel for late 90s SPx with these. Understand the critics concerned with the resell value but from strict cardboard collecting view, these really hit a good note with me. Thin card stock coupled with the designs was a solid nod to the originals. 3 card packs for these also seemed right. Condition is sensitive just like the originals also lol

Condition is definitely going to be a problem, not as bad as the EX-2000, but a concern to be aware of.

This was more fun to open than I expected, will probably snag a couple more boxes. Resell may be questionable, but for some of the bigger stuff it should still be fine.

At least it appears UD is listening. Next. Old school Black Diamond. Triple golds.

while resale may not be great, it does feel like you get decent value at around $100 a box.
If you are paying more than that, it's just ok.

While i like the design, i just don't know what is actually collectable from each of various subsets and base. Even the 1 per case or even 1 per 3 or 4 case hit cards are nice, but just ok. Would have been better if these inserts were super low serial numbered.

I agree, the Gold XRC would be nice if also had /50 or whatever on it. But I like how the rarest inserts (not that I got one) don't have numbers, similar to old Downtowns, etc.

Either way, it's a fun enough rip at the right price and I have no doubt this will get to $70-80 USD and even more enjoyable opening.
