Not bad. A little bit of continuity is not bad.

It's looking like the license might end up being worthless. The WNBAPA just rejected a 500% pay increase which would put max pay at over $1.1m and a minimum of nearly $250k. For context only 5 players in Unrivaled made more than the proposed WNBA minimum.
Project B will only have 66 players and only maybe 5-10 will be getting those huge contracts while the lower end might be about what the WNBA was paying last year.

The WNBA might be toast, I just don't see the WNBAPA getting a better offer and they sure as hell aren't going to get a revenue sharing deal when the WNBA only owns 42% of the league.
Unless something fundamentally changes I don't see a 2026 season and a good chance there won't be a league period.

Maybe the players need to change the leadership, conflicts of interest are glaring.
The wnbapa president has already signed with project b (rumoured to be for $2m) and 2 of the executives of the wnbapa are the founders of Unrivaled, a competing league.

The biggest names will be fine, but the minor stars, mid and lower tier players might find themselves working for peanuts or unemployed soon.

This is so short-sighted of them.

Explosive athlete who modeled her game after the chubby old guys at the YMCA. Should be relatable and connect with the whole nation creating another massive jump in popularity for the sport.

Fingers crossed she is in National packs next year!

C.C. inadvertently destroying the league may have been the best outcome from all of this.

We already knew the running joke it had been but the monstrous exposure sent it into overdrive. Wild times.

Agreed, extended lockout will kill off the momentum and explosion of ratings Clark and Bueckers brought in. Not to mention some of the players becoming more household names. A lot of those new fans would just shrug their shoulders and turn off the games and go back to ignoring the WNBA.

And a lot of us that already don't care about the WNBA will be even more turned off lol

For sure. No one should be rooting for Fanatics to get anything.

This is so short-sighted of them.

Everything the WNBA has ever done has been short-sighted. It is hands down the worst and dumbest professional sports league ever to exist, and just can't stop trying to kill itself. Only the WNBA could botch the golden goose that fell into its lap.

The WNBA will cave to the players. They just sold three teams expansion fees of $250 million each. You better have players and top-tier talent. Those teams expect to see the top players in their arenas. The valuations and media rights are predicated on having the talent.

The top players are worth $10-20 million a year on the open market easily. Everyone knows this.

Surprised a former Deloitte consultant bungled things so badly? :coffee:
