To start off the new year, I’d like to share my three favorite social media sources on Instagram for basketball card content and would love for you guys to do the same:

1. @thereal27guy https://www.instagram.com/thereal27guy/
Consistently delivers educational reels covering the history of iconic cards and sets—not. He also provides excellent overviews of major auctions. On top of that, his personal collection is exceptional.

2. @cardchannel https://www.instagram.com/cardchannel/
The most educational accounts when it comes to print runs. Deep analysis of popular sets from the 1990s and early 2000s uncovering some surprising gems from an era before serial numbering became standard.

3. @shaqcardcollector_de https://www.instagram.com/shaqcardcollector_de/
Thoughtful discussions around set structure, card design, rarity, and collectability—especially from the 90s and early 2000s.

Feel free to share your favorites and also feel free to comment on the three accounts mentioned above.

Only one of these accounts has personally blocked me, and only one of these accounts was run off this board for being outed as a fraud.

I'll let the folks who have been around for a while figure it out.

Wasn’t the first guy a board member here?

I avoid influencers like the plague. Nothing new to present, just look at me behavior.

I agree with the OPs recommendations.

I recommend @this_cardboard_life if you want to see some downright humour directed at the people higher up in the hobby.

The amount of manipulation that goes on is by some folks is obvious once you learn to recognize it.

I get is. Some of us are just card nerds who get really excited about the stuff we collect. To me, that's what I enjoy following.

But it becomes apparent after a while the folks who are just shilling certain things to pump the market, dump, then move on. And I can tell you, it is possible, especially if it's a coordinated attack.

I believe he is still on here.

He loves himself some Harry Potter (https://www.blowoutforums.com/showthread.php?t=1506989&page=26)

I always suspected that the reason he protected Eric Bitz was to get to the Rudy Gobert Rookie Logoman. Could be wrong.

My favorite account on IG is tyjerome_pc. I love the commitment to a single player who isn't a star. (I promise that is not my account!)

95% of influencers on YouTube and Instagram are self-serving. Yell as loud as you can to pump up the Michael Jordan or Wemby or WNBA or 90s inserts or Kabooms or Star or Cooper Flagg cards. Then dump the entire inventory on followers.

And then start over with new pump and dump schemes.

Those of us who have been around for a while figured it out in about two seconds.

Great hint. I didn't even know the player but the cards on his IG are very cool.

Instagram is primarily for influencers. YouTube and Substack are for "content" creators.

It's the difference between propaganda and education.

I haven't heard about Substack until very recently. Is there some good content there? I only knew about Medium...

I used to subscribe to a baseball writer on their years ago. It is essentially a blogging platform for independent journalists and writers -- it's an easy way for them to monetize their content.

Instagram is for grifters.

YouTube is for entertainment videos, reaction videos, long-form educational videos, and live streams.

I've run into my fair share of scammers on IG, who are fairly easy to spot and avoid, but I've also made some very healthy sales via IG as well.
