Cheap Fun Break Club - Baseball

Alright, I kept saying that I would create an official Club thread... so I am finally doing it.

I know lots of people have asked to join and I am sure that I missed a few people. Sorry. Please reply in this thread to add your name. :)

This club is like NO OTHER on this forum!

Club Philosophy:

Most of us spend $20 a week on loose retail packs anyway. Heck, a blaster costs as much as $25. Why not spend that money on a cheap break instead? Maybe you do not get anything big... but the breaks are a blast and that is part of the value. Besides, your blaster box probably was a dud too. :)

Official Club Rules:

1. A member of the club gets a guaranteed spot in the break - however, you can pass on any break. What I mean is, you owe nothing. Don't like the break? Skip it. You still are a member and you still get a spot in the next break. Please do not skip too many in a row though.

2. There are NO monthly dues. You only pay for the breaks you want.

3. You can have multiple spots.

4. The goal is a $20 - $30 break per spot (preferably about $25).

5. We can do team breaks or hit breaks. Most should be team, but some older (cheaper) products have expired redemptions - in that case we should do a hit break. No one wants to "win" expired autos.

6. You do NOT have to be a member to participate in the break - any left over spots are open to anyone on BO. (So what is the benefit of the club? A guaranteed spot. How many times have you found a cool break only to see it was already full?)

7. For each new break, you will still need to confirm (or deny) your spot.

8. Once you receive your cards, please post in the thread that your cards were received. For anything outside the USA, I will provide the customs # as proof of delivery. This rule is so that Blowout Cards can see that you have received your cards and it makes it easier for me to open another break. (I know that most of you do this anyway.)

I want to break both Lineage and Marquee when they come out in August. I also want to do some 2011 Topps Chrome.

I was also thinking of getting a bunch of different old Baseball boxes - lots of different products and lots of different years - and doing a team break. We could probably fill 2 or 3 of these.

I am in on all the upcoming breaks. As for the old baseball boxes, please nothing with redemptions. I said in a previous post, I would love to get in on a 2010 Sterling break. It will not be a "cheap" break but it will be "fun." :)

Alright everyone, CFBV is off and running - I am accepting payments now and we will probably bust those 3 cases and the 4 helmets on Thursday (I think). Wow that is going to be a blast!

CFBVI is on deck. I am thinking about a 2011 Bowman Platinum Team Break. The problem is that it will be a bit more expensive than usual - of course, now that we have 40 members I guess we will have to do 2 cases at least anyway...

Also, thinking about doing an expensive break (not regularly, but just this once)... what do you think about a case of 2011 Topps Chrome, 2011 Topps Lineage, and 2011 Topps Marquee all in 1 break? Holy $hit! We could make it a team break, but that each case is randomed... so you may have the Yankees for Lineage, the Braves for Marquee, and the Nationals for Topps Chrome... just saying. You would not have the same team for all three cases... gives you three chances at a great team!

I know, I hate drafts too. However, I have a solution...

everyone has to submit a list. everyone.

We can then just do the draft live on ustream or blogtv. All aprticipants can make their own picks with a 2 minute clock - anyone not present... I can use their list.

Well, it isn't based on people, but spots.

A team break has 30 or 31 spots.

A hit break has more or less depending.

A player draft though - that is another animal altogether. This one will have over 250 spots. However, lots of people will buy 10 and 20 at a time.

Also, the draft occurs BEFORE the break - so it will be a lot faster than what is happening to us right now in CFBV.

I want to do a break of marquee and lineage, but that won't be for awhile.

How many cases? A team draft is not enough value - 18+ teams (over 60%) will not get a hit in just 1 case.

The teams will cost $35+ each per case too...

Is it worth $150 for a team across 5 cases?

Any thoughts about incorporating 09 Topps Unique baseball into one of your mixed CFB? I just say it is now in stock and there are pretty nice case hits in that product.

I would be down for any type of BDPP break...I think a hit break would be hard because there are so many RCs/prospects, unless you just grouped together all non-numbered cards into one "hit" per player. But I'm down either way.

-I think a team draft of BDPP would be a bad idea as some have already mentioned.
-The 4 assorted case break you had suggested would be fun and more in the spirit of CFB, but I personally am not as excited about it as BDPP.
-The idea I like most right now would be a 3(or maybe 4) case hit break of BDPP. You would have the 36 autos + 9 USA autos + 10-12 low #d refs + chrome lots of the top prospects + 3 AFLACs + a few lots of reg refractors.... there are some good possibilities to put together some nice value for people. I think you could turn it in to 120-140 slots pretty easily and have it at $20-25 a slot, with a good amount of people getting good returns.

Maybe recruit some input from the high volume BDPP breakers on here as to ways to split everything up

I agree that a team break of BDPP isn't a good idea. There will be too many spots getting little to nothing.

I prefer breaks with 2010 or 2011 products because it drives me crazy when nice hits are pulled and they are expired redemptions. I realize if you do it as a hit break then at least noone gets "stuck" with the expired redemption, but it still makes me mad that one or more of the hits in a product is a waste.

If dachman gets a few big hits in his 5 cases I think another 4 or 5 case player break of BDPP would fill fast. If his cases are relatively uneventful then I think they would not.

Those are all good points.

There is another thing that worries me about Dachman's break - and I mean him no offense at all. However, he has never run a group break. A player draft is easily the most difficult break to run - hands down. I am afraid that there is a possibility that this break may be a lot more difficult than he has counted on.

If this break goes sour, then I think another BDPP break will not be possible anytime soon unless a mod is running it.

I joined the break so that I can watch and learn from it (and hopefully get a top 10 pick).

Now that is an interesting idea. I can easily get the spots well under $20 too.

Why not do this and then afterward do a 5 case bdpp break?

2 cases = $5200.00 but we can probably get it for $5000 or less.

320 hits plus base lots (4 boxes of prospects or 4 boxes of rookies each)

so 328 hits

$19.00 for the first spot and $17.50 each additional (estimated)

Or we could go super crazy and do Topps sterling...

Yeah, but if we did that I could do no more breaks until October. It would count as an active break and so would the Finest break. That's all I can have is 2 active breaks.

In the spirit of keeping it cheap and fun, I think a 2 case hit draft of 2010 Sterling would be our best bet. Affordable slot price (under $20) and you get all the strategy/drama/fun of a hit draft.

I strongly prefer a hit draft to a hit break. A hit break is so random that you might as well just buy a pack or a box yourself and open it. A hit draft has all the anticipation, strategy, trading, manuevering and drama!

We are going to do multiple cases - at least one case as a team break and at least one case as a hit break. The more the interest, the more the cases.

The cost is going to be different depending on which you want: team, hit, or both.

The team draft details are in BLUE and the hit draft details are in RED:

Team Draft (30 Teams & 1 Giant Box Loaders Spot = 31 Spots)

You get the team shown and/or named on the card - historic teams go to the current club - all 20 giant cards are lumped into one slot regardless of team. Although there will be at least 30 hits plus 180 parallel cards and 120 insert cards, there is NO GUARANTEE that your team will get anything significant. See the 2011 Topps Lineage Checklist (http://www.blowoutcards.com/forums/images/baseball/checklist/2011tplineageBB.pdf). Regarding the TBD, perhaps we can get a response from Topps on Twitter.

Team Draft Pricing:

Case price = $950.00

$950 Divided by 31 Slots = $950/31 = $30.65 direct slot cost

+ $1.00 Supplies (Sleeves, Toploads, Padded Mailers, Boxes, Shipping Labels, Ink, Paper, etc)
+ $3.00 Projected Shipping (appr. 65 cards = 8oz First Class Parcel & DC#)

$34.65 Subtotal

Special Rules for this Break:

1. If you hit a card worth $250 or more, I will ask you to pay for upgraded shipping - priority mail, signature confirmation, and insurance.

What do you guys think about the option of either team, hit, or both?

I know in the past people have said, "If it were a team draft (or a hit draft), I would be interested..."

I am just wondering if it makes the break better or maybe worse (convoluted/confusing).

I don't like team breaks. Unless you get in the top 10 picks, the chances of you getting anything good is slim. Of course, if you get a team like the Yankees, you will most likely make off like a bandit.

I like the hit draft much better. It spreads out the hits more, allowing later picks to potentially get something worthwhile. Hit draft also brings down the price allowing you to get more slots for the money. More slots = more chances at a high draft pick.

The split draft is the best of both worlds. It gives you a stab at a team + at some hits. Hopefully you don't get screwed in both.

I think the team break is easy and less time consuming..... But what if you get the first pick, take the yanks and get all base and relics??? It makes randomization less important

Hit draft requires a lot of attention and I don't have the time to rank all the hits!!! But I like the ability to pick what I get

Cheap Fun Break Club - Baseball

Alright, I kept saying that I would create an official Club thread... so I am finally doing it.

I know lots of people have asked to join and I am sure that I missed a few people. Sorry. Please reply in this thread to add your name. :)

This club is like NO OTHER on this forum!

Club Philosophy:

Most of us spend $20 a week on loose retail packs anyway. Heck, a blaster costs as much as $25. Why not spend that money on a cheap break instead? Maybe you do not get anything big... but the breaks are a blast and that is part of the value. Besides, your blaster box probably was a dud too. :)

Official Club Rules:

1. A member of the club gets a guaranteed spot in the break - however, you can pass on any break. What I mean is, you owe nothing. Don't like the break? Skip it. You still are a member and you still get a spot in the next break. Please do not skip too many in a row though.

2. There are NO monthly dues. You only pay for the breaks you want.

3. You can have multiple spots.

4. The goal is a $20 - $30 break per spot (preferably about $25).

5. We can do team breaks or hit breaks. Most should be team, but some older (cheaper) products have expired redemptions - in that case we should do a hit break. No one wants to "win" expired autos.

6. You do NOT have to be a member to participate in the break - any left over spots are open to anyone on BO. (So what is the benefit of the club? A guaranteed spot. How many times have you found a cool break only to see it was already full?)

7. For each new break, you will still need to confirm (or deny) your spot.

8. Once you receive your cards, please post in the thread that your cards were received. For anything outside the USA, I will provide the customs # as proof of delivery. This rule is so that Blowout Cards can see that you have received your cards and it makes it easier for me to open another break. (I know that most of you do this anyway.)

Agreed. I have said as much. Plus, no other club is held to this rule.

I am not going to complain though. I appreciate Blowout Cards and will continue to support them regardless.

It is a shame though - we have 80 active members and together we have spent thousands and thousands of dollars on our club breaks...
