If people want a better shot at getting a "10" auto grade.
Pretty sure it's not the pen, it's the quick motion to make the bottom of the "B" and he's not applying enough pressure at the end of it.
The loop is signed so fast that's why you end up with the ink not being as full.

You gotta cut the guy a little slack. Topps has him signing for everything this year and maybe next year as well. Imagine sitting and signing your name a few thousand times, you gotta get tired of it. That why players signatures change over time, they learn to shorten it and sign as fast and as many as possible. Bryce needs to focus on making to the bigs and not flopping otherwise what good is his autograph

At $5 -$10 a pop I wouldnt mind signing a few thousand ;) But yes it would suck

I'm sure Bryce Harper has bigger things to worry about than a small amount of the dying sports card collecting community that like to grade strictly with BGS grading that HAVE TO HAVE a 10 Subgrade on his AUTO'd cards. He kind of has to worry a little more about hitting a baseball and being the best baseball player of all time, which he will probably fall a little short of behind Babe Ruth and Barry Bonds, the undoubdted #1 and #2 players of all time. I say Harper finishes #8 on the all time list at the time of his retirement, right between Alex Rodriguez and Stan Musial.
Bryce, if you are reading this right now, don't worry about your signature Dude, just keep your eye on the ball!

Harper gets far more than $5-$10 a pop for his autograph, but I'm sure it's less than the reported $200 per signature that Mark McGwire was reported to be asking in 2003-2005. That is what Beckett reported, and from the selling prices of his 2004 Upper Deck USA Autographs, that was cheap in comparison to what ebay prices were on those cards.

It sucks to see that they arent "perfect" again, but hey it is what it is. I dont blame him for rushing through his sigs, he's busy as heck between games/practices/etc. and just had to move up a level and adjust to his new town and teams, so I take it signing perfect autos wasn't the first thing on his mind. Especially b/c you know topps has him signing his arm off between bowman, platinum, chrome, and heritage minors. One thing that has been nice is that his IP autos arent rushed and he still signs his number 34 and luke 1:37.
To look at it on a positive note, doesnt not having the autos perfect add a chase aspect to his autos..being that ones that grade a 10 are going to bring a nice premium

His autos were much nice on cards back in the Upper Deck USA days. Now Topps has him signing everything so his style has certainly become much more rushed. It does suck yes.

I've never seen anybody change their signature so much from on-card to a sticker (not my card)
2011 BOWMAN PLATINUM BRYCE HARPER TAILLON AUTO #/99 | eBay (http://cgi.ebay.com/2011-BOWMAN-PLATINUM-BRYCE-HARPER-TAILLON-AUTO-99-/190559142253?pt=US_Baseball&hash=item2c5e35c16d#ht_1788wt_1039)
Getting a 10 auto grade or not isn't his problem. Simple as that.

I was pretty impressed with his IP auto, the amount of time he took. Basing off that train wreck of a video where that guy got this Mickey Mantle ball signed by him.

If he signed it perfect every time they'd all be 10's and having one wouldn't mean anything special.

To tell you the truth, when Harper's first autos came out in 2009 UD Sig Stars and USA baseball, I was always quite impressed about how neat and bold his autos wrere...if it was on sticker, they rarely came of the sticker and were always so bold. Even his 2010 USA buybacks are nice. Maybe there was an aded thrill because those were his first official autos and there was an excitment factor. I guess that excitment factor quickly diminished as his 2011 Bowman autos and probably most eveything after that will be rushed and sloppy...
here's a side by side comparision

Pretty sure Bryce Harper couldn't care less that his signature isn't going to get some card collector the grade they want. In fact it's probably the very last thing on his mind.

Who cares?????? He's signing cards and they r selling for 3 times the amount, with a quick signature, than a regular rookie signing with a gorgeously smooth sig, i could give a crap how awful his sig is, i want one!!!!!!

The Aflacs still are the nicest example of certified Harper autos, IMO.
(I am also biased because I own one, but I still think it's true, regardless of the bias)
