-Howdy. Generally speaking, i have no interest in grading anything in my PC. However, i *may* get a couple of free grading opportunities at the National next week, and am wondering if i should use it for this card or not.

Drew P pictures by lobo_hacker - Photobucket (http://s1203.photobucket.com/albums/bb400/lobo_hacker/Drew%20P/)

The first 'big' scan cut off the side so centering looks off, so i included a couple other front shots. The only blemish i see on the card surface is a couple of small dots to the left of the "D" that may not show up in these pics, is visible with close inspection.

Overall, look good enough or do i leave it at home? I don't need it graded, and am happy with it as is, but if i get the free grading curious what the BO family thinks.

Any input appreciated have a good day.

I think it depends on what you are hoping it will get. I just had two red refractors graded and I examined them both closely and could only find surface marks on one of them (the Lester). 2 small dots if you will not really visible and scans and it happened on both of them giving me my lowest sub grade of an 8.5 and giving me a 9 overall for the grade. I'm not saying that it will happen with yours but here are the scans of mine and they both ended up as 9's (just as a comparison). That being said you can always resubmit it if you don't get the grade you want. I think if you are going to get it for free it certainly isn't going to hurt to see what it comes back as.

No, no, no. You sell that one to me! I am the same way. I dont grade for my PC, or at all for that matter. Which I dont sell, only collect. But I bet if you graded it, you could sell it and buy 2 ungraded for what you get for that 1 if it grades 9.5, which I believe it will,

I certainly think everything else looks good on the card but just be advised that if the surface comes back at an 8.5 the best you can do is a 9 on the card (because it can only be .5 higher than the lowest subgrade) and as far as I know there is no way to make surface marks/dots less noticeable.

""Your card is off-center left to right. Here's my copy that I will be submitting at the Natty.""

-Do you think so based only on the large scan of the front? because that cut off the card. If you believe so based on the two smaller front scans, i certainly understand, but the big scan front is a scanner error, it cut the right side off prematurely while scanning.

I appreciate the input folks, thanks!

I believe that they do take into consideration the centering on the back of the card as well and the centering on your back looks off top/bottom & left/right.

-Hmm yer right the back looks off. It's also one of the most valuable post-1980 cards in my collection, so i'll probably just leave it at home and not risk it.

Thanks again, have a good night all.

How do you post images on this forum?

I still think that if you are going to get it for free and if you are going to do the raw card review it's not going to hurt and you could be surprised since grading is so subjective. If you don't like the grade you can always cut it out of the holder. Cracking it out of a BGS slab is a little bit harder.

-I need to get more info on the grading opportunity, and also figure out how to crack stuff out of a graded case before i decide. I've cracked PSA before, but mostly on cards with lower value. Yer right, though, so long as no one swipes my backpack it won't hurt to give it a go.

Decisions decisions.

Good point. I know nothing about grading.

they dont weigh centering on back as heavily but it is weighed...
someone mentioned in the other thread to use some kind of jewelry cleaner to wipe the surface im curious to hear more about that

I don't think cleaner will help if there is two circular marks on the card if they are like what I am thinking they are. Certainly it might help with some surface scratches but I can't imagine it will do a lot for actual physical deformations in the card surface.
