So I collected cards in the late 80's-mid 90's when everything was overproduced and want to get back into the hobby. I recently purchased a 2011 Allen & Ginter hobby box and liked it despite my lack of great hits. My plan is to buy a hobby box of all the popular hobby boxes when they come out but I would like to also buy some older Bowman boxes from when Justin Upton started to now. Problem is I don't know which ones are reasonably priced and I also don't want to get screwed on the expired redemptions.
I've looked around the site in the past week but due to information overload I'm having trouble finding answers to my questions. Any advice would be appreciated and I plan on going to the B/S/T forum as soon as I get everything settled because I plan on collecting Diamondbacks base card sets and good cards from my fav players (Upton/Kennedy/Skaggs/Bauer/CY)
Thanks in advance!

-Everyone will have advice. The key is weighing the info and making yer own decision.
If you are buying older Bowman boxes for the express purpose of acquiring Justin Upton cards, why not just buy his cards directly?
Oh, and 'popular' doesn't mean 'good'. Many buy to rip and flip, others to collect whole sets, still others for the gamble, and others because they just feel like busting some wax. Best to determine your goals and move forward from there. Not just buying the boxes, but ask yourself why.
Happy hunting.

Nice :p
But it depends what you're in it for. If you're trying to make some $, I'd say prospecting is for you. But only stick to bowman products when prospecting, preferably chrome. Other brands have prospect sets too but bowman chrome will always be king. The way you make money with prospecting is you buy an auto or two cheap of someone whose got potential and just hope for the best. Once the value of the card rises you sell and make a profit. It can take a long time though, Jose Bautista autos were dirt from 2006-2010. Not they're $60+!
If you like just a team and a few players, I'd suggest just buying singles and not boxes because it will be alot easier to buy the cards you like/want than to pull them
Busting wax is a gamble
Hope this helps

Well my entire purpose isnt just to get Justin Upton cards. I would like other cards I can keep for my PC and others that I would sell/trade. Seems like if I just went out and bought my favorite team/player cards I would just be spending money without a chance at making any. Maybe I'm not thinking straight on this though lol.

Thanks for the advice guys. My plan is to buy a 2011 Bowman Baseball Hobby Box, and a 2010 Bowman Chrome Baseball Hobby Box tomorrow and start from there. Then Ill have to trade the cards I dont want or are going for a good price on Ebay until I have enough transactions to make some deals/trades on here.

2010 bowman chrome isn't the base you'll get a ton of really warped cards and a mediocre checklist, are there any other options?

ahh I just remember hearing about the warped cards. What boxes are good for picking up some prospects then? and is there a good site to check out the checklist for different brands. Part of me wants to buy another box pf 2011 A&G because I think it has a good checklist, some cards I would keep for my PC and I could get closer to completing some sets.

If your looking to try and make some money by ripping and flipping your going to need to be able to buy more than just a couple boxes, you'll need to pick up a case. So if your sole interest to make money $ then you need to buy bulk. Your chances of pulling big hits is greater and you also complete sets that you can sell. Putting together lots is good too. If your looking into prospecting and trying to make money with your hits over time then I would suggest Bowman Draft. I can't recommend preferable years because I'm not into prospecting anymore. I used to but its become too hard to keep up. If your going to do that then I recommend you pick up a Beckett to keep an eye on prices.

yea i really like this years ginter too even though its not prospects. is there a price range you have to stick too? if not 2010 bowman draft is great. if you just google the product and checklist youll find a bunch of results like just google "2010 bowman draft picks and prospects checklist" and you'll get results. I would go with this years ginter, another 2011 bowman box or 2010 draft.
