the call according to Jon Heyman. Must not have been able to acquire a solid starting pitcher on the trade front.

They offered him to COL for Ubaldo, but Rockies passed on the offer.

Interesting, hadn't heard that. Although, I wouldn't think Turner would be enough by himself to get the deal done. Tigers are typically very aggressive with their pitching prospects so it's not really a surprise.

The rockies wanted Turner and Porcello or Turner and Scherzer. Which is just crazy, hopefully he can get the job done.

Maybe the call up was to showcase and hope he took off, since his triple A numbers didn't seem that impressive.

He's not in AAA, he's only in AA. AAA isn't really a prospect level anymore and more of a holding pattern more than anything. Most teams are just promoting straight from the AA level now.

Awesome. Hopefully he can produce for us! We need a reliable bottom-end of the rotation starter.

My bad, I thought it was AAA I was looking at. You are right though about Triple being basically a holding pattern.

His ceiling is certainly much higher than that when he fully develops. Has #1 starter upside.

Yeah, it's interesting how that has changed over the past couple of years. Makes you wonder why some teams even promote to AAA other than to keep the arbitration clock from starting early.

It is just a spot start according to CBS Sports. The Tigers just acquired Doug Fister from the Mariners. The Angels don't hit Righties too well, so hopefully Turner does better than Teheran did in his MLB Debut Spot Start.

If he actually becomes a #1 starter, how scary would having to face him and Verlander back to back:eek:

Fister sounds more like that "back of the rotation guy" they need.

Turner is a future #1 or #2 but not now.

Just imagine if Max Scherzer could figure out how to not randomly alternate between great starts and horrid ones.

Yeah, Sounds like Fisters having a better season than his record shows. He hasnt been getting any run support in his outings with the Mariners.

Detroit Tigers acquire Doug Fister in deal with Seattle Mariners - ESPN (http://espn.go.com/mlb/story/_/id/6818559/detroit-tigers-acquire-doug-fister-deal-seattle-mariners)

Cant wait to see what Turner can do.

Yeah, this didn't happen until later after his call up. If he does well though could absolutely see him being up in september for a playoff push.

Yeah, they could have a scary staff if Scherzer could get it all figured out and Turner continues to develop.

After today's start, Jacob Turner will be sent down to AAA ball. That means Fister should be the #5 starter.

Turner looks pretty good for his debut in front of a sold out crowd. Was on the bump when 5 baserunners stole but he will work on it.

Last pitcher btw to be on the mound when 5 stolen bases occures... Roger Clemens ;)
