Thats the latest rumor. Pomeranz pulled from his start.

Terrible deal IMO for the Indians.

Yeah, that'd be an incredibly bad deal for the Indians. My Pomeranz stash would hate for that deal to happen as well.

Alex White also scratched from rehab start. Looks like it's going down. I can't believe the indians are this dumb.

Why do teams think Jimenez any good. He's been nothing more than awful for the last year since that ridiculous start of last year.

Seriously? He's been awful? lol
He's a fantastic pitcher that just needs to get his command straightened out.
Even after his ridiculous start last year he was pitching very well, just never got the run support.

Sox making a last second push for Ubaldo. Lars Anderson was just pulled from his game, though I doubt he'd be anything more than a 4th name in the trade.

07-30-2011, 07:30 PM
The Rockies owners would be idiots to trade Ubaldo. Granted he hasn't been lights-out the past year, like he was before the All-Star Break last year, but the guy is still one of the best pitchers ever to wear a Rockies Uniform.
As a Rockies fan, here are a few reasons NOT to trade Ubaldo:
1. He wants to pitch for the Rockies (Ubaldo Jimenez wants to finish his career with the Rockies | HardballTalk (http://hardballtalk.nbcsports.com/2011/07/18/ubaldo-jimenez-wants-to-finish-his-career-with-the-rockies/))
2. He is good pitching in Denver (30-19, 3.67 ERA @ Coors Field)
3. He is getting paid entirely less than he is really worth ($2.8 million this year)
4. He is a fan favorite (but then again when did the Rockies owners card about that).

Ubaldo Jimenez has been traded from the Rockies to the Indians for pitching prospects Drew Pomeranz and Alex White and first base prospect Matt McBride, according to the Denver Post's Troy Renck.
Ubaldo, 27, has registered a 4.20 ERA and 1.34 WHIP in 20 starts this season. Jimenez is under contract through 2014 at a reasonable rate. All three Indians prospects were scratched from Saturday's game for Double-A Akron. Pomeranz, a 2010 first-round pick and the Indians top prospect, is the prize of the deal. He had a 1.87 ERA and 95/32 K/BB ratio over 77 innings for High-A Kingston before his promotion earlier this month and a 2.57 ERA over three starts at Double-A. Pomeranz might be ready for the big leagues at some point during the 2012 season. White, selected 15th overall in 2009, had a 3.60 ERA and 13/9 K/BB ratio over 15 innings in the majors before he hit the disabled list with a finger injury. McBride is 26 and has just an .811 career OPS in 2,342 games.

Rockies starter Ubaldo Jimenez's name has been front and center for much of the past two weeks in trade talk, and it appears he will finally be traded. CBSSports.com's Danny Knobler is reporting it will happen sometime before the deadline. Still, it's not 100 percent and Jimenez is even making his scheduled start at San Diego Saturday night. Of course, Esmil Rogers began warming up in the bullpen in the first inning, so it looks like the deal could be finalized during the game.

No definitely not. Indians offer is just insane to me - especially since they literally have NO shot at winning anything, other than perhaps an AL Central title.

On a side note, looks like Red Sox are close to acquiring Harden. Which will be great for all 2 starts he makes it through without getting hurt.

Bingo... I love this trade as a tribe fan. Alex White already can't stay healthy and will end up being a closer which they have no need for right now. They get a lock down ace for 2.5 years at next to nothing money wise. Pomeranz isn't going to be a CC type starter. He will project to a Greg Swindell type but never a front line ace starter.

This move wasn't just made for this year. The Tribe has shown they are ready to compete the next two years and you need a lock down ace for that to happen. The Giants showed last year all it takes is to get hot in the playoffs to win the title. Pitching wins games in the playoffs and the Tribe just got the best piece out there.

mgugs46

I agree ubaldo was the best SP available ... I just dont see him as an ace, especially not in the AL. I suppose if the Indians add more in th offseason maybe they'll have a legit shot at contending next year but I just can't see them being a serious threat in 2011. I am however glad ubaldo went to them instead of Detroit, LAA, Texas or NY.

Finally a post that makes some sense.

I'm a Tribe season ticket holder and I was pumped to see what Pomeranz could do - but he might just be some huge bust - no one knows - the Tribe have been burned too many times (Miller anyone??) to not get a true #1 that they can afford. White is nothing more then a BOR guy at best - probably a reliever. He's good - but he isn't a "break" the trade guy.

Ubaldo isn't some free agent "hired gun" the Tribe got either - you don't pass on a legit #1 that is locked down for this season and 2 more seasons at rock bottom prices.

Ubaldo has been a "legit #1" for all of half a season. He is far from a known commodity. Prospects are always a craphsoot but if you are going to give up your very best you want it to be for close to a sure thing.
