Stress fracture in his back. Red Sox are screwed IMO. Yes they'll make the playoffs and probably are still good enough to win the AL East. My concern is having Bedard as your #3 in the ALCS or WS. Maybe it's all the negative media around Bedard as not being capable of pitching in big markets. Perhaps he'll prove me wrong but I think the Sox are really in a bad position without Clay as their playoff #3.

They will be fine. Them and the Rangers is who it will come down to and the Rangers pitching isn't that great.

I'm not saying they can't win the AL. What I am saying is that since ST this was a world series or bust team IMO. Beckett/Lester/Buchholz sounds a lot better going up against Halladay/Lee/Hamels for example than having to rely on Bedard, a guy who says he doesnt like the limelight.

Nobody in the AL has a dominant pitching staff to what you'll see in the NL, but they sure can hit.

Red Sox will have a tough time holding off the Yanks now. I see them making it to the ALCS for another epic 7 game series with New York, with the Yankees coming out on top.

I disagree with this. The Yankees have CC Sabathia as their bonofied starter and that is it. They are still without ARod and still are not getting production from Jeter or Posada. The Red Sox still have Lester & Beckett and a much more potent offense. I think Bedard will provide the depth that they needed unless the Yankees bring up Banuelos & Montero to give them extra fire power which is certainly possible since they weren't traded at the deadline.

The Yankees # 2&3 starters are Colon and Garcia, so I'm not really concerned about playing them in a series with or without clay.

I think people are discounting the Rangers too much. I think they have a very good shot at going back to the World Series.

Rangers have a great offense and great pen now. I think they are a little weak in SP compared to Boston or Detroit or Anaheim.

Dont forgot AJ Burnett.

They certainly have an offense that is capable of matching up with Boston but their pitching still isn't great and Neftali Feliz hasn't been shutdown like he was last year and they are still only 2 games up on the Angels.

Ogando is pitching very effectively
CJ Wilson is a solid pitcher
Matt Harrison is very solid
Then you got Holland and Wilson.
Their bullpen is on par with the Red Sox IMO.

If the yanks and sox go with a three man rotation in a 7 game series it would look like this:
CC vs. Beckett
Burnett vs. Lester
Nova/Colon/Hughes? vs. Bedard?

who else could the red sox pitch and i can see the yankees calling up betances i really dont think banuelos is ready.
As for the rangers I dont think they'll get past the first round

Is that a joke? Maybe if they play the Red Sox but that won't happen.

Lackey, Wakefield, or even Doubront. Also could see other transactions after the trade deadline.

Well they're either playing the red sox or yankees most likely the red sox, I think both of those teams would beat the rangers in a 5 game series. CC or Beckett pitching twice in 5 games, almost 2 guaranteed wins the way those guys are throwing. Not to mention the sox and yankees lineups are better than the rangers'

Lackey's been pitching better recently. I think with Lackey at 3, Bedard at 4 and Wake at 5 the sox will be fine. They have the most potent offense in the game and that was before Pedroia started killing it.

Like I said before, people are severely underrating the Rangers.

AJ Burnett is NOT the Yankees #2. Cashman even said they didnt go after Jimenez because in Game 2 of the playoffs, theyd prefer Colon over Jimenez. Yanks rotation would be CC/Colon/ and then either Garcia or Burnett.

Rangers offense is great - the bullpen is really good. I think their problem is SP. CJ Wilson, Ogando, Harrison, etc are not on the same level as Verlander, Beckett, Lester, Weaver, Haren, CC, etc.

top 6 teams in baseball, in this order, IMO: phillies and red sox are a toss up for 1 & 2, then braves, rangers, yankees, giants

rangers and braves should not be underestimated, but i think in the end, it'll be phils-sox WS and anything can happen there.

What is the playoff format? Just curious, I really don't know.

its just seeded by the final record. if the season ended right now it would be
1. red sox
2. yankees
3. rangers
4. tigers

the top team plays the worst, the wild card plays team with the second best record. But because the yankees are the second best record and the wild card, they'd play the rangers. I just think the yankees have a better overall offense and bullpen, starting pitching is kind of a toss up

Rangers are very dangerous now with that solidified pen especially in a 5/7 game series. That line-up scares me because anyone in that line-up is capable of breaking open a game. I just hope that the innings that the starters are logging will wear them out come playoffs because there's no way Washington can hold them back with Anaheim at their heels.

i'm a huge sox fan and this scary's the hell out of me. lackey has pitch well his last two starts , but they were vs crappy teams. i think bedard scares me more than lackey. i don't think they would pitch him insted of lackey unless he becomes more of a head case. if that were to happen i think you would have to go to wakefield
