Very recently put up a 3 box break of topps hta on feebay. Managed to pull the last 10 teams off before the end, but through 22 teams sold I stand to lose $160 on the break. what do i do??
option 1: refund all of the money, relist with a higher initial price, and just eat the negatives that come in??
option 2: Relist the remaining 10 teams and let everyone know the break won't happen until all are sold??
option 3: Selectively see who will be happy with a refund and relist their teams with a higher initial price, and leave the rest as is??

learn how to run a business/break before you get started, at this point you should take the hit, anything less would be bad business on your part. why would you not figure out how much you needed to make & sell the slots for that before you started?

figured bidding would take most of that over, and wanted to see all 32 teams sell, would think that a 3 box break would pull at least $5 per team, which would have covered the cost.....

I would definitely not cancel the break. Tell the "investors" that you will eat the last ten unspoken for slots and keep those cards. Otherwise this will probably be your last break anyway. lol

if you need $5 per slot, start the auctions at $5...... in this situation you have just gambled hoping to make money while other people are spending they money, not really a cool situation at all. case/box breaks are something that should be left to collectors and people with money, you need to be able to cover the price reguardless and if needed you should keep the extra teams that aren't purchased yourself and sell them.
it's very bad business to try and back out on a break like this, it's borderline fraud.

I'm not sure I get your math. You say you sold 22 but stand to lose $160. Yet here you say that break even is $160 (32*$5).
Did those 22 sell for $0?
Also, you're doing Topps kind of late. Box breaks are hot when a product comes out but tend to fall off a cliff after a few weeks.

I would suggest NOT doing group breaks and selling the pieces on eBay.

I will also echo the "no group breaks on ebay" sentiment. And that goes for both selling or buying slots. Just asking for trouble.
