Edit: See below, I was wrong. Sorry about that. :-)
:o:o
I searched the Forum to see if this had been discussed already and couldn't find anything, so sorry if it already has.
My Topps Diamond giveaway complete 660 card set arrived today, and it is in a plain white box, void of any markings whatsoever, they have been on backorder, and obviously they ran out of the colorful Diamond Anniversary Set boxes I have seen on eBay. I looked just now and I see a couple other sets on ebay that recently sold that are just the plain white boxes, and of course they sold for less. I worked at getting enough rings to get the set, and I was excited to get the set, Now I am just pissed.:mad:
At this point I guess it makes no sense to keep it sealed, I might as well bust the so called "factory" set, and display some other way and maybe sell off some singles from it. It would have been nice to have the option of keeping a nice looking colorful Factory set sealed for my collection. I'm a little afraid to open it and find it is just a standard set with no special foil markings as I have seen from these sets on the bay.

Thank You so much, i just cracked it and you are right, the colorful box was inside, so it ended up being triple boxed. My bad i guess i have egg on my face.:o:o:o:o:o:o:o
There definitely was a couple sellers on the bay that sold them as in a plain white box. One had a picture jazzed up with his own color, and the other had no picture, but stated in the description plain white box.
thanks for the help, I guess that is what forums are for. Sorry Topps I slandered you for no reason. :o:)

Open the white box and there will be a shiny printed box inside. Just like Christmas!

Yes, I am not 100% sure it is any different than a Complete set one would buy off the Target Shelves. But at least it is a attractive box.
If anyone knows how to tell, short of opening it, if it is the special embossed cards that are being sold from set breaks, let me know. Thanks.

Well, if you look carefully at the box the commemorative came in, you may notice that there is not a bar code on it.

I opened mine. All of the cards have a foil stamping which identifies them as anniversary set cards. other than the foil stamping, they look just like the normal series 1 and 2 cards.

glad you started this thread..mine arrived the same way last week..glad to know the "shiny" box inside
As a side note..I got 24 1950's and 1960's cards I 'won' or 'traded' for shipped with the set (since shipping was free)..and it looks like they purposefully destroyed these cards or found ones that were as bad as possible..I mean they are sharpie markered, bent, a few are burned, crumpled up, one is just 3/4ths of a card..just disgusting...they aren't even close to being gradeable....NONE of them...what a shame...and a sham

I got one with significant damage. The rest were ok. Not in great shape but for 50+ year old cards, I'm not complaining. That's also why I only traded die-cuts. You have no idea what the condition of the other cards are.

That's nice to hear that the cards are at least a little unique from the store-bought sets.
