My wife thinks that something pretty expensive was stolen from her work and it is currently on ebay. I can see the seller's location but that is it. Can you see any more information than that from just a user name? If I call ebay and tell them the name of the person I think it is would they at least tell me if I am right? Any help is appreciated.

According to Ebay you can only if you are involved in a current transaction with them.

You could just buy something from the seller and get the info. Or just bid and take the strike for not paying.

sometimes you could google the ID name and that person might use that same alias on other sites, then do some PI from there

I did that and he had it linked to his Facebook account. Some people are not meant to be crooks!

Was it who you suspected? Cutting hands off should be the penalty for stealing, no questions asked...CHOP

If i were you I would not mention anything and win the auction. Then i would report it to the police and your company. this person will be ruined and no one likes a thief.

Even though i found out the person who did it now, you should totally win it. This way it will delay any time in actually selling it to someone else and getting it sent away. Buys you more time to get it back.

Btw. Can we ask what the item is?

I can not say what the item numbers are. When my wife found out that the items were from her work they notified the police. The police said they would contact him and tell him to take the auctions down and take it from there. Of course the auction ran and ended. I guess since it is not a dangerous crime they didn't get around to it. Now my wife has to wait until Monday to see what has happened.

Perhaps the police / DA are the ones who won the auction. Pretty sure it would be easier to prosecute the case once the seller sold the merchandise.
