but do you guys think that a "master set" that includes all the rookie cards #'d 1-55 would sell better than just a master set with rookies #56- ?

or do you think the lower numbered rookies will not affect the master set price?

What do you guys think the best way to move the chrome RCs might be? I was thinking about doing 10 card lots like in baseball but there just doesn't seem to be much demand for anyone other than the top rookies in the set. If I bust I'm assuming I will be lucky to get $5 for the base non-rc chrome sets.

Lots don't work in football because prospectors are the reason baseball lots make money. You just have to do team sets (if you're early) or complete sets.

You will get a ton of base A Peterson cards in each case so you have to figure out the best way to use those cards to maximize your sales. If he has a few more big games these will be the draw of the release so you have to decide if Peterson will help drive set sales or if you are better off selling him as singles.

My guess is Peterson single chrome cards will fetch at least $25 out of the gate so a master set if the market is not flooded might be good for $60 each.

Hell, Lynch had 29 carries for 153 yards and a TD today. I think that these two alone can drive up the prices on Bowman Chrome football.

I think that a lot of Lynch items are a bargain right now.

I think all the big RCs except Peterson are on sale right now. None of the top QBs picked are starting except Edwards and there is way to much talent there for these guys not to make an impact next year. Selvin Young will be starting the rest of the season once Henry is kicked out of the league on Monday and Michael Bush in Oakland would have been a second round pick if healthy will be playing in a few weeks. I also like the long term future for Calvin Johnson (no suprise), Dwayne Bowe in KC and James Jones in GB.

Now I may be breaking instead of selling my cases.

I doubt this will last when Bowman Chrome is released in 3 weeks, but Peterson BASE Topps Chrome RCs are fetching a steady $35 on Ebay right now. A base Topps Chrome auto went for $450. This should move Bowman Chrome pricing up this week.

Each case of Bowman Chrome will yield 3-4 base Peterson RCs. Now the big question will be how to sell these guys?

I think the encased uncirculated box topper Peterson cards will be $75 early on and on multiple cases you should have no trouble landing a few of these guys.

if my numbers were right and barring any weird collation issues, you should get about 5 rookie sets/case, and about 3 base sets/case....

Bingo. Sets are a lot less work to ship, but sometimes slices of pie sell better than the whole pie.

You have to figure the top 5 rookies will sell for at least $55 as singles early on so you have to make sure sets fetch at least more than that.

Peterson - $30
Lynch - $10
Russell - $5
Quinn - $5
C. Johnson - $5

Can't tell who how many times I have sold 2-3 cards from a set for more than what the set was worth and ended up with thousands of singles I end of just trashing. Don't worry Jug, next time I will send them your way for free.

I don't think that Bowman Chrome 165 card sets should out sell Topps Chrome 265 card sets.

For one, Topps Chrome is more expensive per box. Secondly, there are 100 RCs in Topps Chrome and they are inserted 1 per every other pack. For Bowman Chrome, there are 55 RCs and they are inserted 1 per pack.

I am sure that initially after release the Bowman Chrome sets will sell for more than what the Topps Chrome sets are at that time, but I think the Bowman Chrome set price will fall below the Topps Chrome set price pretty quickly.

i still might try to put together a couple master sets... its just the time it takes to sort a master set vs sorting team sets and what would sell vs what teams will not sell... :confused:

5 cases you should be fine on pre-selling master sets. I might try the same but still think it is early and Topps might have a few tricks up their sleeve like an Adrian Peterson variation worth $200 and then the buyer claims you owe him one of those cards as part of the master set.

No, the last parallel is an xfractor, blue refractor, gold ref, orange ref, red ref, superfractor, or plate. Just like how it was in Bowman Chrome baseball.

Topps can be hit or miss. I have had problems with Chrome product collation because you are getting only 4 cards per pack and it can be hit or miss.

Usually with a multi case break things work out ok although my 12 case Bowman Chrome break this year was a little off. The only consistent bad collation I have had from Topps products is with jumbo boxes.

From my experience last year it can be hit or miss. Last year I made a set out of a case and had dupes of all the big rookies. Yet I remember others not even able to make one set. I also recall some that would have a case that didn't have a Bush or one of the other big rookies in it.

If you can average $3 per rookie card + $1.50 shipping bump, you can get $495 right there. (assuming 2 complete rookie sets out of a case). Now I'm not saying that all these will go for $3, some will go higher, some lower, but it should average out close to this. Then if you get $30 per base set, you are close to break even and you still should have a complete Bowman Chrome set + the top loaders, refractors and autographs.

I'm only doing one case of this and I can probably get it on the release date (its good to live near Duryea), hopefully I can break even and keep a set like I did with Topps Chrome Football.

KD, from past experience I'll tell you that I've historically done much better selling sets of Bowman Chrome rather than individual rookie cards. Last year I sold the sets within one day of release for $125 per. This year will be a little softer, but still should pull you $100 per. Not sure you'll get that by selling the rookies individually, and you'll be lucky to get $10.00 apiece for the base sets without rookies, no one is interested in them. Hope you do well though!

This year there are 55 Rookie autos with an adjusted breakdown

17 ea A – 1:374 pks or 1:2 cases
5 ea B – 1:256 pks or 3:2 cases
3 ea C – 1:243 pks or 5:4cases
20 ea D – 1:33 pks or 9 per case

One of the autos should be a parallel.

Based on these numbers you should also average :
5 X-Fractors
3 Blue Refractors
1 Gold Refractor
1 other Refractor

Even you if do have bad luck with the collation we are all pretty good about helping each other out to complete master sets. I don't know what I did before these boards.

I'd put that $140 back into the product for another 2 chances at a nice Group A autograph, or low numbered parallel of AP, C. Johnson or whoever. i am with you on all of what you said... with the exception that I did just throw 2 sets up for presell on ebay. I want to rip all of my 4 cases... but will start with the one.. and depending on how i do with that and early sales.. willl determine what I do with the rest of the cases.

What is really tough about this product is that the group A autos will fall about 1 in 4 cases and even if you do hit a group A auto, chances are it will be one of the second tier top picks worth only $30.

The good news about this product. Lets's just hope the buyers are there next week.

CB, last year I broke six cases of Bowman Chrome football and came nowhere close to a refractor master set. You'd need to do a lot of busting to put that together. Not sure it'd be worth it either, Topps Chrome football regularly outsells Bowman Chrome, and a master refractor set of that sold on ebay for $325. And you have to remember, that set had 110 rookies, this set only has 55. I don't really care for the way this product is set up. Seems with only 55 rookie cards you're going to pull a TON of veteran refractors and parallels. Good luck guys!

Mathematically, you should be able to put a refractor set together from 5 cases as you would have 200 total refractors. However, this is assumming pretty good collation and also that there are the same number of refractor cards of each card in the set.

You'll take a beating on the vet lots, you could start them at .99 and most of them wouldn't sell. Likewise, other than the big six or seven rookies, most aren't going to bring much. Unfortunately right now I think this is a hold or flip product, not much of a market for it, and the good pulls are going to be extremely difficult. Good luck whatever you decide to do.

I don't think Bowman Chrome FB is a product worth ripping multiple cases of for the simple fact that nothing sells for decent money other than a few autos and low numbered refractors. IMHO ITS A FAST, FUN CASE BREAK THAT UNLESS YOU GET LUCKY WON"T MAKE YOU MUCH MONEY. Its not like baseball where prospectors buy up lots of the base rookies. Really only a handful of guys out there for people to chase the un-auto'd rookies of in bunches. I broke two cases of last years and didn't hit one big auto. By big auto I don't mean just Bush, Young, Cutler or Leinart. It was pretty bad as I didn't hit Lendale, Maroney, DeAngelo Williams, MJD etc. NONE in 2 cases ! Biggest auto I pulled was a Brandon Marshall Gold Ref which thankfully I still have since he is starting to dominate.

I'm going to open a few boxes and then wait for another of my favorites, Leaf Limited, to hit later this week.

I'm sure the bigger autos will be just as tough to get as last year (why would Topps change) Kolby Smith had a big day against the Raiders but what RB hasn't this year (sorry Cap) ? He was avg. less than 2 ypc until yesterday. Chiefs line is pretty bad this year anyway. I'll be surprised if Smith has anymore 150 yd days in him this year.

Since you already have 3 on the way, break one to get an idea of what its delivering than make a decision on the other 2 afterwards. Like I said, its a fun rip but unless you get lucky with the autos its not going to fill your paypal account.

i know... i know... im just trying to look at all the angles here.. razor poker really put a bad taste in my mouth and i dont want to take another bath like i did with that... yes, apples and oranges, but the underlying facts are still there (big hype dying quickly = $ loss)

and yes you are right there are decent autos in 'easier to hit" groupings ... I will not receive my cases until wed, so I have a couple of days to make a final decision... see how the other early sales go and see how the other board member's "live 2 case break" goes.

and yes i flip flop worse than some politicians when it comes to making decisions.you should see me at a restaurant ;)

Since you already have 3 on the way, break one to get an idea of what its delivering than make a decision on the other 2 afterwards. Like I said, its a fun rip but unless you get lucky with the autos its not going to fill your paypal account.

this is my plan right now- because I have a big on one of my pre-sell sets so I will crack open a case to honor that.. and i have several people watching another set as well as the box toppers... what will happen to the other 3.. who knows. :confused::eek:

This may not double your money if you break, but let's not jump off the cliff just yet. It will still be a fun break and if you get lucky with a #d auto or insert of one of the stud RC you may make money. Here is the worst case on a break w/o hitting a stud rc auto or insert.

- Each case should yield about 3 master sets for about $240 total. Even if you are short there are enough guys busting here you will be able to fill out your sets no problem.

- The 10 box toppers will probally go for $7-10 each for another $75.

- 10 autos at a minimum will bring in $100 total.

- You should get about 15 non-auto RC #d inserts which should bring in another $75.

- I'm sure we can all get creative and find ways to sell the remaining RC singles, vet inserts, etc. for another $50.

busting is one thing but if you plan to keep sealed for resell i wouldnt sweat it. there will always be people on ebay buying this stuff. unless adrian peterson flops this will be more than fine.

Just noticed someone selling the box toppers on fleabay. They're #'d to 1079 this year !? Last year they were #'d to only 519. This stuff will never dry up. Its 90 Pro-set all over again LOL:eek:

i recv'd an offer for one of the pre-sell sets i have up on ebay for 50 bucks.. should i take it? my other presell sets that are up for auction both have 10+ people watching it and ends tonight.. if the sets can sell for 50+ each, i might just crack open all four of my cases that are waiting for me at the UPS store... now i just need to find a way to get out of work today :)!
