Yahoo! Local Beta News - Suspect Charged With Beating Of Rangers Fan After Winter Classic (http://beta.local.yahoo.com/news-suspect-charged-beating-rangers-fan-winter-classic)

There is no place for this in sports. It is just that, a sport. To take it to this level because of a rivalry is just piss poor

The guy sounds like a real POS...glad he'll be getting charged.

Its sad really and this isnt the first time nor will it be the last where a fan gets beat by an opposing fan. I know he did not know but this is a crappy way to thank someone that fought for his freedom

Cops have arrested a man in connection with the brutal beating of an off-duty police officer and Iraq war veteran after the NHL Winter Classic that was caught on video, then posted online.

Dennis Veteri, originally a South Philadelphia resident, was charged with 2 counts each of aggravated assault, conspiracy aggravated assault, simple assault and reckless endangerment, according to Philly.com. He was released Friday after posting bail.

Veteri has a string of past offenses, according to police records. Cops are still looking for other Philadelphia Flyers fans captured on video beating New York Rangers fans outside Geno's cheese-steak restaurant after the Rangers' outdoor win over the Flyers on Jan. 2. Via Philly.com:

I don't get why this is huge news. Happens all the time at games here in Ottawa when the habs or leafs are in town, and from what I hear it's not uncommon in Montreal or Toronto.

Shame this stuff has to happen. Always fun getting into arguments with opposing fans, but really sucks when it gets taken to another level.

The piece of #@#@#@#@ who they caught is going to be real proud of himself when he realizes he and his 2 Ass-hole buddies beat a War Vet, way to go 'tough guy' so that's how you do it in South Philly! That pussy would never survive in Iraq but he's a hero in South Philly  I know it happens in every city after major sporting events, the beauty of this one is the clown got caught on tape! Enjoy jail, hopefully he gets gang raped, and as they are #@#@#@#@ing him in the ass they say "that's how we do it in South Philly" ;) Yee-Ha!!!!!!!!!

So big because it's all about perception. I don't condone what happened, and being from Philly, think it's disgraceful. However, also having been to Geno's, I wouldn't say that's a place I want to be at night...let alone after a Flyer's loss...let alone wearing a Rangers jersey. Sure the guy who is being charged jackass, but in this situation, and all, a little common sense could save everyone a lot of trouble. Either don't go, or take your jersey off. I understand the pride thing, but you have to know when you are jeopardizing your own safety. Contextually there was no way that would not be a hostile environment. Mob mentality.

Where I see your point, I have to disagree with not being able to wear your teams jersey to such an iconic place like Geno's. We have similar issues around the TD Garden/Boston but alot of the establishments as well as the city assure that there is enough Police presence to make it as 'family friendly' as possible, perhaps Geno's & Pats should take notice. Ohh by the way just don't cut through any of the numerous alleys we have around the Garden! ;)

1. The guy was from South Jersey, not Philly.

2. Flyer fans and Philadelphians don't condone it.

3. Going to Genos in a Ranger jersey is a bad idea. Doesn't justify the actions of the attacker, but its a bad idea... and this is from the guy who during the playoffs helped his buddies put a Montreal Canadiens jersey on the statue of Rocky at 2 AM and then ran like hell.

1. Article states he said this is how "we do it in S Philly" while pummeling the guy

2. I don't believe I said anything about Flyers fans or Philly in general condoning anything. ;)

just clarifying on my behalf, and any 'Adult' wearing any Teams Jersey is a bad idea IMO :D

I wasn't saying you were Philly-bashing. The dickhead was from South Jersey. Those bozos don't know a thing about Philly. I lived there for a few years, there is a big difference between the Philly city-dweller and the South Jersey home of Snooki and the idiots group.

You do know I was born and raised in Philly so take it easy there Labowitz.

Sad that it happened but if the guys who got their azzes kicked by some dopes with Flyers jerseys on, didn't have Rangers jerseys on, it's not what it's being made into now. It's not the first time someone got their azz kicked in South Philly and it won't be the last. But again being blown up nationally because of the game and jerseys. If it were two guys from the neighborhood kicking the sh*t out of a couple other guys from the neighborhood, war vets, cops, whatever, it's a tiny article somewhere in the Daily News and maybe a 2 minute story on the 11 oclock news at most.

When I speak, I speak as a whole. After being there for a Devils game and my friend being called a c*@t by a 16 year old along with b*$%h, s*^t, w*$@e, etc etc etc, fans, as a whole, have zero class.

I have been to Boston-Yanks in Ny and Boston and never experienced stuff like this. Not even in the Garden for Devils-Rangers. I saw first hand and have drawn very very own conclusion. The beating at the WC verifies this!

Philadelphia fans is now a media meme. Bad sh*t happens everywhere, but when it happens in Philly, it's front page news.

The guy who did that is an animal, and I doubt you could find anyone that would support him. He deserves to get prison-loved.

You have to admit Philly Fan has done above and beyond what is considered typical "#@#@#@#@ happens" and yea it happens everywhere i.e. Dodger Stadium, but Philadelphia will always be unique for having their own 'holding cell' and judge on duty in the old Vet ;)
