Panini America Previews the 2012 AstroTurf NFLPA Collegiate Bowl “Player-Only” Set

January 21, 2012 at 12:32 PM

This afternoon inside the Home Depot Center in Los Angeles, 100 of college football’s top draft-eligible juniors and seniors will take the field for the premiere AstroTurf NFLPA Collegiate Bowl. But it’s likely that the real highlight for most players — including University of Miami quarterback Jacory Harris and LSU quarterback Jarrett Lee — will arrive before the game even kicks off.

That’s when Panini America officials will present the players with 200 copies each with some of their first football cards, the unique results of a special “personal edition” set produced this week starting with photos that were taken on Monday and Tuesday.

The players can use the cards as they see fit, but it’s inevitable that many of them will end up on the secondary market. Below, you’ll find a gallery of every card in the set. Panini America will follow up with cards for the handful of late-arriving players who missed their photo sessions.

In addition to creating this special set, Panini America also acquired autographs from each player on special embroidered patches and stickers that will be used in future products.

Enjoy this sneak-peek gallery. When many of the players from today’s game begin making their marks in the NFL, you can bet these earliest cards will be coveted by collectors.

That has to be one of the ugliest cards ever made. Their whole design team should be fired.

They have to get these guys to sign stuff. One of these autos will be in every box of every Panini product out next year im guessing. They profit off us paying for this crap. Isnt this the Prestige design or was it Elite. I cant remember but both products sucked anyhow. I dont know why they are showing it off though. Its sad that they are happy but you never know, a few of these guys will probably do ok in the NFL.

These cards aren't going to be sold. They're being given away to these players as an experiment to see what they do with them.

Yeah but they had the same players sign some cards to insert into future products. I watch football like crazy and can only tell you who a few of those guys are. I guess they cant put all big names in every product but some of these guys may not even be drafted or signed.

This might be a record for me bumping a 10 year old thread, but does anyone have a roster for both teams for this game in 2012?

I have only seen a few cards online from this set.
