So, me and an old friend have always had this dream of miraculously recieving a truck load of wax to sit around and open for days on end...well, seeing as how neither of us are rich or specialize in trading card truck heists, we've come up with this plan.
He supercollects Griffey and I supercollect the Big Unit, what we want to do is buy a bunch(10-15) of boxes from the mid to late 90s and the early 00s over the course of the next couple of months until the release of Gypsy Queen. Then both of us will buy a box of that each to see if we can pull a Griffey Auto for his collection.
So far, we have the following...not much, but a decent start.
1-2000 Upper Deck Series 1
1-1997 eX-2000
We're hoping to pull some awesome PC cards out of this, but at the same time we realize we probably wont so it's more about the thrill of ripping some boxes from our youth.
Anyway, just wanted to get some suggestions from the community on some good classic stuff to open. Share your thoughts:)!

I am a sucker for older Finest boxes or even Bowman's Best.

Pinnacle products were always a fun break with lots of inserts.

Yeah, was planning on grabbing a box of '99 Finest series 2 in hopes of a gold refractor.

Are you opening them as you get them or are you both waiting until you have a bunch of random boxes, then open them at once?
Because it sounds like fun to buy up some random boxes for a year or so, then open them all at once. The anticipation would kill me.

Also, I vote for 1994 Upper Deck.
Gotta take a shot at the Griffey/Mantle.

That only came in retail series 1 boxes. And those boxes usually sell pretty high.

Oh, I wouldn't consider $80 "high". Especially when taken into consideration of what the OP is trying to do.

We're waiting to get a bunch together over the next couple months before we rip. Basically trying to time it with the release of this year's Gypsy Queen. I probably will end up getting a box of '89 UD just for the fun of it..a bunch of packs/cards to open and a little nostalgia with a possibility of netting some rookies.
Hadn't really considered '94, but he already has/had one of the Mantle/Griffey(auto) cards but he's actually in the process of selling...anyway, if we do get one, I think that one will be his pick up just to see if he could pull one.
Right now, my planned next box is 1999 Finest Series 2...after that I'd like to get a box of 2000 Upper Deck Series 2 and hope for the Game Patch...hahaha I said hope.
Also wouldn't mind getting my hands on some 2000 Pacific Revolution....
