6 autos per box... right now it can't be sold less than $135.

I don't see the value there... Can't see this is more than a $80 box of Elite...thoughts?

Honestly, it shouldn't be more than Elite, but it's the allure of the possible short print autos that will be what is driving the product. I am sure you probably knew that however.

They tried to do this last year with Contenders Hockey, in my opinion it didn't really work out. All of the bigger names were the short prints, and it didn't have nearly the following or the fanfare that Contenders Football has year in and year out.

You can't see it being better than Elite because it's not. Same number of autos, all thats different is the SPs. Plus Elite has the die cut numbered autos that seem to be a LOT easier to pull from $80 of elite than $140 of contenders. I'm staying far, far away.

I'm going to have to agree with the previous posters. 2011 Playoff Contendors might be cool, but I am looking at singles and carefully selecting individual autographs. I might bust 1 box b/c I am silly but that will probably be it. The price seems way too high, but I'll sure be banging my head against the wall if the product excels and the price skyrockets.

Hey Ajax: when you say that you are staying far, far way (nice Star Wars reference), do you mean the wax or the single cards?

It is my belief that you can probably go through and pick up 6 single autos from some of the best prospects in the product on the secondary market for less or around the price of a box...
granted, I supposed that can be said about most products in most sports..
but sitll, this is certainly the case with this one

I don't prospect (much) I have my one PC guy and that's it (Longoria) but I still enjoy opening prospect cases and such. With Contenders, if I were a prospector, I would probably put the releases in this order:

1) Bowman/Bowman Chrome/Bowman Draft
2) Donruss Extra Elite Edition
3) Bowman Sterling
4) Playoff Contenders
5) Leaf Metal Draft

Hated the look of Metal Draft, and hate Contenders just as much, but at least Contenders will hold some value, while as Leaf Metal will not hold it as well. I'll buy my one Longoria card and that's it, but I see the autos of top guys not even being half of what they are from Bowman Chrome (assuming they aren't SPs of course).

I like the look of the cards more than Elite and it is easier to pull the better guys in Contenders (2 on card autos per box). Doesn't seem to be parallels of the auto cards though. Plus in Contenders you have the possibility of hitting a nice vet auto. I just hit a Matt Kemp/Clayton Kershaw dual auto in a break last night. I still don't think I would pay the high price tag. It will be interesting to see how the SP's work out in this product.

another advantage over elite is there is a little more value in the rookie cards. Rendon, Starling, Cole, Bauer plus the other big names have base rookies that elite did not.

I think Leaf Valiant is the best buy on the prospecting market right now. Ten AUTO's for $100 plus three of them are numbered 99 or less. You also have a shot at Ichiro's AUTO's, and the sale prices of the cards #/25 or less are picking up really strong over the last month. Also, none of the base cards (except Ichiro) are short printed, so you have the same chance at Bubba, Rendon, and Hultzen as you do for Tyler Anderson or Dickie Joe Thon.

Elite FE is a better overall product with more autos per box than contenders and it's $30 less per box. 115 vs 85
