Hey guys, thinking about buying a high dollar card of Brett Lawrie or Eric Homser. The Lawrie is a Bowman Chrome Gold Ref. auto. still looking for a Hosmer gold ref auto to show up but the question is this: out of those two players, which one do you think will have the better career when all is said and done?
I have seen Hosmer's projected as having 70 power on the scouting scale but can't find what Lawrie's future power

Imo hosmer will be the better rounded player and lawrie will be the power hitting hr beast of he two.

i've read that there are make-up issues surrounding Lawrie but I watched him debut last season and he looked like a hitting machine. i do expect some regression alittle bit as pitchers get more of a read on him. do you think his bowman chrome autos will dip in value any once more autos are released?

I'll take Hosmer hands down. Lawrie is just another Brewer reject. I just can't understand Lawrie's card values, and not because of the short prints.
Delmon Young anyone?

yeah..i hear yah on lawrie's values. they're approaching Harper's sell value. I think that Hosmer would be the safer bet right now. but if i can find a Stanton gold ref auto I'll get one of those first

Hosmer is by far the better prospect IMO.

I believe Hosmer will be the better overall player. He displays the ability to hit for power, average & the ability to get on base with a patient approach at the plate. He also can add value in terms of speed on the base paths & defense at first. Lawrie really have a position, and doesn't have quite as patient of an approach as Hosmer. Hosmer also plays in the AL Central which is definitely not as strong as the AL East.

and Hosmer's card board isn't as inflated as Lawries right now. might be the safe play now and for the long haul

I'd rather have the card in my avatar which I do have. Auto/patch 7/10.
Hosmer all day over Lawrie, especially taking into consideration their values.

So according to your theory if the brewers trade a player, that player will never amount to anything.
Wow, you should probably start watching baseball.

So what if somebody disagrees with you. Don't get your panties all bunched up and make personal attacks/comments.

I have no issue with other opinions. I didn't even say who I thought was better. But when he calls Lawrie a reject I tend to disagree as it's quite evident hoopster has never watched a Jays game.

Living in Wisconsin when Lawrie was traded, I have observed his traits and followed his progress in the minor leagues. Like I said, hype similar to Delmon Young when he was a Rays prospect.
With only 150 ML AB's, it's such a smaller sample to project Lawrie being the next Superstar or even an All-Star. I much rather investing in Mike Stanton at the current prices.

I am pretty confident in Lawrie as long as he becomes a little more mellow (I think his over-the-top energy hurts him a bit in play but nothing you can't fix).
Haven't seen Hosmer play, so can't offer any insight on him. :)

Lawrie is an animal, and he actually plays a position....... 1B's are just lame, I like both, but to call Lawrie a reject is silly.

Expand on this. If you are going to make absurd generalizations, at least back it up with the 49 years of baseball watching experience that you have.

Hosmer will be the better all-round player, but Lawrie will own the fans. The kid has charisma to spare and he knows how to put a team on his back. Couple that with the fact that he may have less than 500 TOTAL 2011 Autographs (whereas Hosmer has autos in almost every Topps offering), Lawrie will be the better investment.
I love that no one has brought up how "his cards will suffer because he plays in Canada". I'm trying to find all of those people who said that about Bautista two years ago.

Hi, I get paid to evaluate prospects and this is actually a GREAT comparison. First off all, most that have responded so far have gone with Hosmer and if you go back one year ago you were right. Hosmer is going to hit around .300 with 25 HR and near 100 RBI"s while getting his share of walks and playing a solid first base. Hosmer is a line drive hitter playing in a big park in KC which will keep his home run totals down. He also struggled mightly against lefties last year and he will see only more of them this year. Lawrie has turned into a different player completely when the Blue Jays hitting coach corrected a fatal hitch he had in his swing last year in spring training. Since then, he is a different hitter and has turned into a beast. He missed nearly 2 months of the season last year due to a broken hand and still hit a combined .325 27 HR's 87 RBI's 20 SB's 3 CS and a SLG % over .600 between AAA and the Big Leagues. Had he played a full season I think everyone would realize how good he is now. Lawrie also was outstanding defensively at third base with the Blue Jays. Well above average defensively. He has got considerably stronger over the past year or two as well. Lawrie NOW has a much higher upside than Hosmer or almost any young player in baseball. That is no knock on Hosmer. All the credit is to Lawrie who has worked very hard to become an amazing talent. Lawrie now projects to hit .280-.300 35 HR's 100 plus RBI's and 20-30 SB's with very good defense at third base. He may not do this right away but within a year this is the player he will be. Probably one of the top 5 players in the game. By the way, not a fan of the Blue Jays or Royals and I live in CA. I am not bias either way. Two outstanding young players that is for sure.
