Brian McCann (C)
Albert Pujols (1B)
Brett Lawrie (3B)
Dustin Ackley (2B)
Jason Heyward (OF)
Ryan Braun (OF)
Jacoby Ellsbury (OF)
Mike Trout (OF)
Mike Napoli (C/1B)
Bryce Harper (OF)
Tommy Hanson (SP)
Jon Lester (SP)
Matt Moore (SP)

It's an ESPN league. 5 OF, 1 of every other position, 1 UTIL, 1 2B/SS, 1 1B/3B, and 3 bench spots. It's a custom points head to head league that favors home runs, steals and wins (for pitchers). I know you guys can help me decide with some educated opinions. I'm thinking Pujols, Braun, Ellsbury, Heyward, and Hanson. Be advised I'm a Braves fan and outfield is really short this year. Thanks in advance

What are the penalties?

Albert Pujols
Ryan Braun
Jacoby Ellsbury
Mike Napoli (trust me; he's a top catcher, especially if there's an emphasis on HR and you can't get Carlos Santana)
Then it's a toss-up between Lawrie on Heyward. Decide on what you see others taking. If you see all the "elite" 3B are going to be gone, go with Lawrie. You can find a third OF, especially if it's not an OBP league and you have two elite OF already. As for taking pitching instead, no; you should be able to find wins if you draft smart.

zbdub808, You don't think I should wait on a more polished product like Aramas Ramirez in the 10th round?

If you really, REALLY want a pitcher it would depend on the other statistics. Lester will most likely have the most wins.

How do you not take a .275/30/80/80/5 catcher? Who could you possibly wait on that won't be gone by keepers or early overdrafts?

Strikeouts are -1, losses are -5, blown saves are -3 but were not required to have a relief pitcher.

I really like Weiters this year and he's going really late...

you can, he's only going to be 34 years old

Look at mocks for similar style leagues and decide.

About same BA/5-10 less HR/10-20 less RBI and R/1 SB

I'd go with the more stable Napoli but again, it all depends on what's left when the keepers are gone.

And you have to remember, everyone's not going to go where mocks put them; they're going to go much earlier as it's a keeper league and you're essentially not starting in the first round but anywhere from the 5th-7th.

makes sense. its pretty cutthroat. everybody knows who everyone else wants and will take them early just to screw you over.

Albert Pujols (1B)
Ryan Braun (OF)
Jacoby Ellsbury (OF)
Matt Moore (SP)
Bryce Harper (OF)- If you plan staying in this league for multiple years you must keep harper. Even if he doesnt get much PT this season he will the season after and by that time he will be going very high in drafts. If you dont plan on staying in this league then defiantly take napoli he's the best hitting catcher you can get.

-Even in a keeper league, i don't agree that Harper is the equivalent of a 5th round pick. If you want to start out in rebuilding mode, why not, but for people that want to win this year, they won't be looking at him in round 5...if they actually want to win this year. In other words, chances at this time are relatively hi you can turn him loose and get him back a few rounds later.

That's not to say he won't blow up and win the Quintuple-Crown, but odds are against a major contribution right now in 2012. Time can obviously change that outlook.

Carry on.

I have a solid core and I have a solid shot to win (I think)...so I just don't think harper does that for me yet...but i wouldn't have put him on this list if I haven't considered it. Thanks for the input keep it coming!

Pujols, Ellsbury, and Braun are musts, I'd say Lawrie and MAYBE Hanson, but Moore will prob be better and more desired after this year. I'd pick Moore first, because you are more likely to get Hanson back in the draft than Moore.

Could not disagree more....absolutely flawed logic.

lawrie not enough big league abs as a test a sample
Heyward.....rough sophomore season, he's a dime a dozen at this point
If your a Braves fan keep McCann over heyward, plus Napoli is always going to struggle to get ABs
Harper hasn't even made a roster yet, unless you think you should draft him in the top 5 rounds, which u should not...don't keep
Hanson has #1 fantasy potential and says to be looking good, besides the concussion.
Steer away from players on teams your a fan off if you can. If you don't, you will never be able to accurately value them, eapecially in trades

Overvaluing u proven prospects, like Moore and Lawrie, is dangerous. I personally think they will be solid fantasy contributors, but u don't keep them over a more sure thing and if people want to take a chance in the early rounds, let him. Then take advantage!

How is moore a keeper right now? The majority of points in my league come from wins and he will not get many. Not one person thinks Lester is keeper worthy? He's probably getting at least 16 wins.

How is it flawed logic? If your going to be in a keeper league for the next 10+ years why not keep harper now? He already has 2 great OF and will be able to fill that void via the draft. Keeping moore over hanson is a no brainer IMO.
