With all the excitement of the off season free agent signings, I was thinking what it would be like if you could suit up some of the greats from years past and have them play in today's current NFL. If I could start a team with my favorite players this is who I would pick for offense.
QB Joe Montana: I don't think there was anyone more adept at handling a big game.
RB Walter Payton: His running style was truly unique and I don't think there is anyone in the game today who compares to that.
FB John Riggins: He might not have played a true full back position, but that's because he was such a good runner, his bulldozing running style carried the Redskins to a Super Bowl 17 victory, and for a while he had the all time single season rushing TD mark with 25.
WR Jerry Rice: Obviously no one was more productive at WR in the history of the NFL.
WR Chris Carter: He was a master of using the sidelines and keeping his feet in bounds, a prolific route runner with a nose for the end zone, I think it is a mistake that he is not in the Hall of Fame.
TE Shannon Sharpe: I think that it would be hard to find a better conditioned athlete, extremely hard working and productive, helping win 2 Super Bowls for the Broncos and one for the Ravens.
C Dermonti Dawson: A habitual pro bowler and probably the best in his era.
RG Bruce Matthews: He played every position on the line at a pro bowl level and made 14 of them.
Randall McDaniel: A multiple All pro selection, possibly the best pulling guard in his era.
RT William Roaf: A high powered tackle that fueled a highly productive running game
LT Jonathan Ogden: Jonathan Ogden, No. 72 Greatest NFL Player in History - YouTube (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AmIdCeO6WLY)
