View Full Version : A great story I got from going to Target for a Value Box

Was at Target tonight with the girlfriend and made my way to the cards. I see 8 of the new 2012 Value Boxes for $14.99. I picked one up, threw it in the cart and we went on our way. Fast forward to us checking out and I don't have a good feeling about the box, I pick it up and walk back to the cards to put it back.
But, when I go back, I see all the boxes were gone, and there was a kid there, probably 10 years old. He's there a lot getting blaster boxes. He was saying he was hoping to find a Value Box, so I guess I was Santa Claus for the night. I showed him I had one, handed it to him, and he gave me a high five and said thank you.
So, it least there are still young kids interested in the hobby.

Thanks fellas
Some of you guys might have misread the post. The kid said he came to Target to find a Value Box. But when he got there, they were all gone. So during that hour when I picked mine up and brought it back to the cards and gave it to him, the other 7 or 8 boxes were picked up and bought.

Yeah I know, but my plan was to get some cards out of it. But hey, this one is better then my ex with time. My ex would be in there for two hours. No f****** way I'm doing that again

Nice story OP - I've never seen any regulars at any of the places I get cards at.
Lol to all the people who also get dragged around stores by their significant others. I swear if it weren't for having a phone with games on it I'd go crazy on such shopping trips. Even with the phone, I'll start to get grumpy after around 2 hours of being dragged around, and if it hits 4 hours I'll probably be pissy the rest of the day. I just don't understand why I need to be there...but once my gf has her own car I won't be!
Fast forward to us checking out and I don't have a good feeling about the box, I pick it up and walk back to the cards to put it back.

I'd rather spend 1-2 hours at a Target where they have a card section vs. 1-2 hours at Macy's...
Nice gesture by the OP, especially since it involved a kid...I did something similar at my LCS a year ago (during a TriStar promotional event) where I gave a kid an unopened box of cards (maybe worth $40-50) that was part of a "package" purchase...the ear-to-ear grin was definitely worth it!

My wife is the absolute worst at shopping. If a place has 1 thing to sell it still takes her atleast an hour and when i ask for cards which isnt to often she complains. I dont know how she can do that considering shes a stay at home Mom bringing in 0 dollars.

Damn your niceness and the other dude who cleared them out. I guess that's kind of a good thing, come to think of it....i won't be tempted to buy them now.
And good for you Ant'ny!

I will NEVER complain about target. HOT CHICKS EVERYWHERE!!!! Whenever my wife wants to go shopping she doesn't even ask anymore because she knows what my answer will be. She literally will say " I need to go shopping, Target for the chicks right ?"
And my only choices here in my town in Utah are WalMart and Target, and I would die of starvation before I shopped at WalMart

Apparently, I'm the only one who doesn't understand how this is a "great story." Lemme see if I understand it:
1. OP was going to get a box of cards.
2. OP got a bad vibe from the box of cards that he picked out.
3. OP went to put the cards back on the shelf, possibly to get a different box with a better vibe.
4. When OP got back to the shelf, there weren't any boxes left.
5. There was a kid there, so instead of placing the box back on the shelf, OP handed it to the kid, not letting him know that OP didn't think there was anything good in there.
6. OP came home, logged on to blowoutcards, and told the story, comparing himself to Santa Claus, even though, if the kid wasn't there, OP would have just put the crappy box back on the shelf and gone home. (Also, Santa usually doesn't make kids pay for their own gifts.)
7. People read this story and tell OP how great he is.
Is that accurate? I guess it was cool that OP actually took the cards back to the shelf, instead of leaving them in the underwear aisle.

I think the point is that he made some kid's night, and that it's good to see kids that excited about the hobby. Nobody is calling the OP a saint or anything, it's just nice to see younger people excited about collecting :)!
Also, it's not like he could have known if there was anything good in there. You make it sound like he felt up a rack pack and gave it to a kid after he figured out there wasn't a relic in there.

You must have been on Santas naughty list as a child.
I guess I'll defend myself seeing you took a good amount of time to think about your post.
1. Yep, I was going to get a box of cards.
2. Yep, got a bad vibe from the box.
3. Wrong, I went back to the box back. Do you see anywhere in my post of me saying that I was going back to get a new one?
4. Correct, there were no more of the Value Boxes
5. You're right and wrong. If you paid and attention to detail, you would see that I described what the kid got at Target when he would come for cards. He would come and get blaster boxes. And why would I tell the kid I have a bad vibe about the box? I'm not in his head, I don't know what the hell he's thinking. For all I know he could have gotten a real nice card. But again, you failed to see what it was about.
6. Yes, I came home, ran to my laptop, logged on to here and told the story real quick. Would you like to know why? Well you seem to be new on here, or you're just not on here a lot. There's been a lot of douche bags on here recently, and sadly, a lot of them have been kids. So it has sucked to see kids treating the hobby so bad. So when the kid got a smile on his face, gave me a high five and said "thank you" it was refreshing to see. So yes, I came on here and let everyone know that there are kids out there interested in the hobby like how most of us were when we were kids. And yeah, I called myself Santa Claus, does that bother you?
7. Did I say anywhere in my post that I wanted people to say how super awesome I am? No, I didn't. If someone else did something like this, I would surely say to the OP that it was cool to do cause like I said, there are douche bags every where in this world. So when you see someone just being nice, it's refreshing

Target doesn't smell like rotten ass. That's always a plus.
Plus you don't have to weave through a line of people by the entrance waiting to cash their checks on the first.
