He skipped it after winning Super Bowl XL, and is skipping this year's visit. I hear it's totally not related to politics, but his words confuse me. He said ""If you want to see the Pittsburgh Steelers, invite us when we don't win the Super Bowl. So as far as I'm concerned he would have invited Arizona if they had won." As mentioned on 1st and 10, the NFL would've presented the Cardinals with the trophy too had they won the Super Bowl. What is his problem? It's almost as if he feels that if his (President Barack Obama's) gratitude is not geniune towards the Steelers themselves, and that he's just inviting them because they're the team who won the Super Bowl and it's tradition. I don't know. Makes no sense to me at all...

If anything we know it's not politically related since he's skipped visits to both a Republican and a Democratic president. Like I said, I have no idea who he thinks he is that he thinks the visits are insincere. Yes, the President may not have watched the Steelers this year, but that's like saying "I'm not doing an interview for ESPN because I'm just an interview subject. They don't care about me once I'm off the air..."

WOW. That makes him a douche? Really? Even if I were invited, I wouldn't go. I guess, sadly, im a douche too. I would have zero interest in going. Its his choice. Its an INVITE, not a mandatory workout. As far as his "wording" goes eh, you'll have guys like that. But, I Kinda see what he's getting at.

he definitely could have worded it better, but its his option and is entitled to it so i dont really have a problem with it

No problem with him not going but his comments seem to indicate he has the IQ of a hamster.

Maybe he just spoke incorrectly then. If he has other reasons I guess that's fine, although is it really THAT much of a problem (to go to the White House)? Does he have a fear of the White House? I dunno.

I wonder if the Steelers took the same point of view with his contract negotiations, if Harrison would have understood. "James, you were happy making next to nothing when you were barely playing well enough to make the roster a few years ago. So why should you playing better change that? Had you played poorly we wouldn't have given you a huge contract, so why would we give you a big contract now?"

He is one of those people that does not like to take handouts. He sees being invited to the White House as being just that. Like he said, if they had not won the SB, the President wouldn't have invited them. I have no problem with him not going and don't really see what you guys are talking about with his phrasing of such a sentiment. I personally would jump at the chance to go, despite my disdain for the man in office.

Harrison's reasons for this are similar to what makes him play the way he does. He was cut 3 times by different teams before he stuck on with the Steelers and became a star. Just a small glimpse into the psyche of him. I've listened to him talk about things like this a few times, and while he isn't the most eloquent person in the NFL, I understand where he is coming from.

The problem with his statement is that it states the obvious. Of course if Arizona won they would have been invited. What is the point? Just makes him sound like an idiot.

Yea he did state the obvious, but I think it was with the intent of expressing his dislike of handouts.

I didn't say he was the brightest bulb in the box though, so you never know :p

Maybe his head has gotten a whole lot bigger just because of that interception return in the Super Bowl.
