If some how the Lakers defy odds and win the championship this year and Kobe gets #6 what happens to his values? Do they get close to MJ, just gain a little, or are the already pretty much where they are going to be? I'm talking mainly about his Exquisite, 90's parallel, and other rare pre-Panini cards.

i think he's probably pretty set.

I think down the line in 10 years or so you may see the same thing happen to his cards that happened to jordans. a new generation of collectors will want a piece of basketball history.

There are just soooo many Kobes out there right now...not sure the prices can go up much. The UD Prices might go up some...

Yeah I'm not talking about all the Panini crap. If you type in a search for Kobe Exquisite, Michael Jordan Exquisite, and Lebron Exquisite on eBay less Kobe stuff comes up than either of the other two, so there isn't that many of his Exquisite type cards up for sale right now...

No effect. His Exq stuff will always remain at its current high levels.

I don't think it's going to happen (them winning), but I would have thought Kobe would be more towards MJ in prices anyway as one of the greats. The problem lately is the huge oversaturation by Panini, but like MJ his Exquisites might spike. The fact that you can EASILY get a Kobe auto for about $100 thesedays will probably always hurt the value though.

The Prices for the Exquisite cards would skyrocket. Possibly even Jordan status considering he has been playing the whole time the cards have been produced (unlike MJ having been retired).

I've recently picked up a chrome refractor of every year for Kobe (except rookie, way too much money). I think those are some of his nicest looking cards and I think those could potentially go up years from now. They have that timeless look to them.

for what its worth..kobe and lebron patch cards (same set nice 3 color patch) sold for about the same price 2-3 years ago..

That's because

One guy won back to back championships with his original team. The other guy bailed on his hometown team to form a super team and still looking for number1.

No I'm not a Lebron hater just the facts.

I know you know that. I was just saying it wasn't that they just went in opposite direction for no reason. Sorry wasn't trying to come at you or anything like that.

If kobe wins another championship, i think kobe will hit a new high right after the finals, but then will settle down a little bit more. And by all time high i mean panini auto from $150 to $200, not like $1k.

His cards would probably double in price.

I followed his prices right after Kobe won his 5th championship. Most of his card values stayed the same or even deceased slightly because of the off-season that followed right after. Don't expect any drastic increase in his card values if he wins his 6th ring. An example would be his Topps Chrome RC BGS 9.5. During his 5th championship run, they hovered around $400-450. They still hover around the same prices today with a slight increase because of the playoffs. His autos could be said to lower in value due to the Panini flood.

If anyone wins a ring their value will see a temporary spike, not only Kobe

There is one thing stopping the storm of Kobe from overcasting the land of 6 rings this year....
Thunder.

Yea temporary spike is what i saw in dallas stuff, but then kinda came down after. But i think kobe is a good long term investment since he will be 2nd best player in the history of basketball after michael jordan. (we'll have to see how lebron does later on his career) .

It's highly unlikely Kobe and the Lakers will win it. Too many stronger teams to go up against. Thunders, Spurs, Heats, etc.

Kobe cards are on fire right now and going up a lot regardless. If they somehow miraculously won the whole thing, I'm sure his cards will continue to rise at the rate it's going. Maybe a slightly stronger rate. But since his cards are already on fire, I don't think we'll see much of a difference in the market than how things are currently.

Yeah thing about that is tons of MJs have been out there as well for years and still are and look at it what his stuff has done. Before I get anyone all fired up lol, I'm not saying Kobe=MJ, but he is very much arguably the 2nd best player in NBA History behind MJ.

No doubt they aren't the odds on favorite but I don't think too many people had the Mavs last year...I would say this Lakers team has more talent them then and if the bigs get off no one can match the two 7 footers. As much as I love Kobe this championship is all about Bynum emerging as the best big man in the game.

it would probably give him a little pop and help elevate his status in some people's eyes. There is just no way they can beat the thunder and then the Spurs or the other way around. Both team crush the Lakers (when their players arent out with concussions of course)
