USPS Insurance - Proving Insured Value

First, I know using ShipCover on eBay is fast and easy to process a claim, so I have no problem using that. My question is specifically about using USPS insurance on sports card shipments.

I've heard that getting claims processed with USPS is extremely difficult when it comes to proving the insured value of cards. I've heard they don't accept eBay completed sales or price guides as sources of value, only store receipts. Is this true or just an urban legend?

Atleast for the one time i had to file a usps claim, an ebay buy it now price (not even completed listing) worked fine. I cant speak to their actual policy, but it was a /10 so didnt have many options

The 2 times I have filed I got back the amount that was paid for the lots.

Whenever I get insurance in excess of $1k, the postal worker always asks if I can prove it's worth through ebay or a catalog, so it should be fine.
