After all, he is deseased and will not be signing anymore... They can make all the Cut autos they want, but it will never compare to on-card autographs!
Once people put these bad boys in their NBA 50 Greatest PC's, or HOF set, or Lakers....... you name it, they'll be gone forever!! Wanna talk about drying up? These are not too far from that.
Get one while you can! The first original big man of basketball.

Wow. You're the biggest hypocrite in the world! So when it comes to cards YOU like... it's all good. Nothing can be fake, it's real, and even if that card "shouldn't" be selling for that high, you justify it with your own opinions on why it is the way it is.
But if it's any high end Jordan/Kobe/Exquisite cards that you are known to absolutely despise... it's instantly not right because they aren't selling for the same prices they used to many years ago and you'll start throwing out ridiculous conspiracy theories even when solid proofs are there. Myyyyy goodness.

I remember back in 2005, about a week before he passed... there was this card on ebay. I put in a last seconds $51 bid and remember thinking I put in too much lol. Then a week later he passed and people were putting them up and they were going as high as $200 and some change... then I thought I got a pretty good deal haha.
Thanks for sharing that beauty.

Everybody has their own style of collecting.... nothing wrong with a Cut, but it's just not for me. All I was saying is, they can always make Cut cards of players at any point, but having an on-card auto of a deseased player is very special imo.
Do you have a pic of your card and wish to share it? I've seen some Mikan cut cards that were very pretty.

Nope, I don't have scans of it. My wife lost the disk to format the scanner when we had to reprogram it (computer). I know what you are saying about on card autos with most of my collection now moving that way. I have the Legends sets of 2010-11 UD Ultimate '97 Legends and 2009-10 Panini Classic Legends autos completed since most major HOF players are in one or the other.
Here is a real old thread of my Classics about half way....just got the Bird yesterday after 2 years waiting on the redemption. Still have McHale and Mcadoo redemptions to come in(2 years and counting lol)

A bidding war between 2 bidders has seriously twarted the market price for this card.
See below. If the 2 bidders didnt go to war on it, the card would be half that price.
Again, should we be basing market trending and prices based on what a couple are willing to fight and pay for a single card?
Just like a nit wit who goes out and puts in an order for 20,000 barrels of OIL at $200. Should the market place on the 40 million barrels thats gets traded daily be based on a $200 small buy?

Those accounts are usually along the lines of "there were no black players in the league, so the competition was inferior." The fact of the matter was that Mikan simply outclassed every other player in the league in those days, both in terms of skill and size. People like to find reasons to discredit the early NBAers, but I just don't see why.
I never hear people saying that Babe Ruth couldn't have been as good as he was if he had to face Satchel Paige or Double Duty Radcliffe, or that Walter Johnson didn't have to face Josh Gibson. Given the quality of the Negro Leagues, it's impossible to say that MLB in those days wasn't "watered down" to an even greater extent than the NBA would be 30 years later.

I assume you're only looking at his BAA/NBA career during which he played 439 games between the ages of 24 and 31.
However, prior to that, he won two championships in the NBL.
The guy absolutely dominated the game of basketball:
- Scoring leader in the NCAA (twice), NBL (twice), BAA (once) and NBA (twice).
- Champion in the NBL (twice), BAA (once) and NBA (four times).
I'll end on a quote from 'The Biographical History of Basketball', which sums up Mikan's legacy quite nicely:
"The winning of team championships and individual scoring titles at an unprecedented rate, the unparalleled impact on the game's reshaped appearances and rewritten rules, the magnetism of basketball's first oversized one-man spectacle, all conspired to write a lasting legend. When the ballots were counted in 1950, George Mikan was named 'The Greatest Basketball Player of the First Half Century' in an unsurprising landslide".
No doubt in my mind, he's one of the 10 most significant players of all-time.

I'm not disputing those things. It's common knowledge that Mikan was slow and lacked athleticism. However, he had good coordination, toughness and tremendous size. He also had a great work ethic. Those things combined to help him dominate his era.
It's generally accepted that players get bigger, stronger, faster and, arguably, more talented with each passing decade.
That's not Mikan's fault.
All he could do was beat the best players put in front of him, and he did just that.
If you're going to hold it against Mikan that the game has changed since the 1940s and 1950s, then your criteria for determining the best players ever is flawed. Using such criteria, the 'best players' list would only ever feature current/recent players.
That seems very short-sighted.
The game has changed a lot. We shouldn't hold it against players from yesteryear who dominated their eras; George Mikan, Bob Cousy, Bill Russell, Wilt Chamberlain, etc.

haha you're going to be one of those people who makes bold statements and then when i make two posts your going to play the sarcasm card and tell me im making him out to be a god? all you said he was over rated and because he wasnt playing with the same competition...look ill admit if im wrong if you give me a good reason why mikan was over rated, but only playing with white people who are on the occasion 1 inch shorter if that because mikan was only 6-10/11 is not a good enough reason...thats like saying anyone who was more physically dominant in their generation ahem *wilt* should have their careers discounted for some reason...

I wonder if, in 50 years' time, people will look back at Michael Jordan's career and say things like "well, the competition wasn't so good back then, the players were shorter and less athletic in the 1990s than the 2060s, not to mention their skills weren't as good".
I'm pretty much guaranteeing that will happen (i.e. the game will get more advanced and players will get bigger and stronger).
It shouldn't take away from what Jordan achieved, in the same way that the game's developments since the 1950s shouldn't detract from what Mikan achieved in his era.
Remember, today's news is tomorrow's history.

Here are some numbers for the other great scorers in that era
Joe Fulks .302 FG%
Max Zaslofky .342 FG%
Arnie Risen .382%
Yes... 40% from the floor was dominating. It often placed him in the top 10 in the league.
The 50% FG standard didn't come out way until the 80s.
Bill Russell himself only had a 44% career FG percentage. It's against that comparison that Chamberlain's 54% career FG percentage is so amazing. That's expected from a big man today... in his era, that would have been like somebody shooting 65% today.
