Wright will always be one of the top 10 position players (most of the time, top 3-4), but I don't ever see him becoming the best in the game... although I suppose it depends on your criteria. But Evan Longoria hitting for better power numbers and playing better defense at the same position is going to make it hard for Wright to be considered the best. Not to mention players like Albert Pujols, A-Rod, Hanley Ramirez, etc. Not taking anything away from Wright, as he's definitely one of the greats of this generation. Just not the greatest.

Not as long as Albert Pujols is healthy. ;)

He is my favorite player but he will never be a 40/40 guy playing in Citi Field.

He should be a gold glove candidate every year, hit between .310 - .330 and have somewhere between 25-35 homers while driving in over a 100 every year.

He wont be the best "player" as long as Pujols and Arod are healthy

No...
Pujols
A-Rod
Mauer
Morneau
Youkilis (sp?)

All of these guys are better and will be around for atleast 5 more years, I think Wright is overrated and the M&M guys are underrated big time.

He is def not over rated but thats opinionated. Not sure how a guy who plays gold glove defense, batting over .350 and has the potential to hit 30 homers every year is over rated.. :)

Didnt Morneau win the MVP? Yeah he is under rated lol

Remember Wright is still only 26 years old
Justin Morneau is 28
Joe Mauer is 26

He's never hit over .325 in his caeer...Yet everyone is saying he hits over .350 . Plus if I remember correctly he led NL 3B in errors atleast once, may be wrong but I remember hearing that.

You are correct he has never hit over .325 in his long 4+ year career lol

2005 - .306 - 27 Homeruns - 102 RBI's - 099 Runs - 17 SB
2006 - .311 - 26 - 116 - 096 - 20
2007 - .325 - 30 - 107 - 113 - 34
2008 - .302 - 33 - 124 - 115 - 15

Most of his numbers are going up

He has been caught stealing 30 times out of 109 attempts

He is batting .362 right now in the biggest market on the biggest stage with very little help in the lineup right now.

Stats aside he is also becoming more of a leader.

To compare 3B to other players is tough...

Especially when you put him in the same sentence with Mauer who continues to improve and has so much more upside to still hit....the catcher position is a totally different beast than 3B. He's got potential to be a top 5 catcher EVER...I don't think you'll be able to say the same thing about Wright.

Its also hard to compare him to a guy like Longoria who is tearing the cover off the ball, has 3 years less of pro ball experience and is 3 years younger and who currently has comparable numbers too and plenty of room to grow.

With all that said...i admire how well Wright is playing in the middle of the comedy of injuries that is the Mets. He'll most likely be the 3B starter in the all star game...even if somebody has better #s.

You must be mixing up the Mets and the Yankees there.

Same market last time I checked. The stage is very similar also. NY fans are NY fans

I think Wright is real good but to say he will be the best player in the game?... now that would be a stretching it!

You have to keep in mind attitude and consistensy. Wright rarely slumps. When he does, he makes it up defensively (anyone remember those 2 brilliant catches he had in 07?). If you want to look fantasy-wise, you KNOW he is going to hit .300+, 25+, 100+. You rarely see that much consistantly from anyone. Not to mention, he has remained healthy his whole career, despite a few little stints here and there. He is also clutch (Arod...what?). He does not have much help around him but, as a Met fan, I think it is obvious that he is the face of the franchise and is single-handedly giving the team hope for a playoff contention. He plays a clean game and is an All-American boy (yes, boy, only 26!). Top 10 player in the game? No brainer. Top 5? ABSOLUTELY up for discussion, but give it some time and he'll be in the same discussion with Arod and Pujols.

I'm a big Mets fan and love D-Wright, but even I have a tough time envisioning him ever becoming "the best player in the game".

When all is said and done, though, I doubt there'll be much argument he's the best MET ever.
