Sent in my Harper auto to BGS. Got an 8.5/10. Any advice?

I got my Bryce Harper Bowman Chrome auto back from BGS today and it got an 8.5 with a 10 auto. It got a 9.5 on centering and edges and 8.5s on the surface and corners. I dont know how the corners got such a low grade. They seemed flawless. I'm kind of disappointed with the grade but I wanted to know what this grade does to the value of the card. Does it lower the value compared to raw? Any input is appreciated. I will try to get a scan up later today. Thanks!

Pop it out and sell it raw...an 8.5 will actually decrease its value a bit compared to raw sales

Resubmit for a 9/10 or break it out.

keep on resubmitting, you will eventually get a 9.5

Break it out...nobody wants an 8.5 2011card. Use magnifying glass as you must have a bad corner? Try carefully using a non scratching screen cleaner to wipe surface of card. If somehow card was sent with your finger print or smudge this will kill surface grade. A 8.5 on 2011 chrome with good centering must have flaws you can see with magnification. Find the flaws...

Personally, I'd leave it slabbed. That way it's clear to everyone what the condition issues are. I wouldn't sell a 8.5 for less than raw and have been able to get raw prices for them, plus it saves you an issue with the buyer later if they try to grade it.

I agree completely as how would you list it condition wise if selling now that you know how it graded? Plus 8.5 is still a great card for a PC. If you would like to trade it let me know as I would love to have it.

Yes, then have an awesome time dealing with angry buyers. Make sure you tell exactly whats wrong with the card when you go to sell.

since the surface got a 8.5, crack it out and try cleaning the surface. Once cleaned re submit.

All cards should be sold and expected as NM-MT (8.5) anyway.

Anybody who tries to return a card to a seller over not getting a 9 or 9.5 needs to be shot.

I agree up to the "shot" point. Why sell an 8.5 card instead of raw? If the human eye cannot find the flaw but Beckett can then so what? Someone "might" pay you for the 8.5 slabbed but I doubt it would go for as much as a raw one. Just my opinion. I would never try and pass a card with a definite flaw without disclosing the flaw but if the card looks like a 9.5 but got an 8.5 then crack it out and sell it raw. Otherwise you are hurting your return which after spending $20 plus you already did. If you cannot find the flaw of an 8.5 card with magnifier then it does not exist. Either the corner is damaged or the surface has smudges or scratches, or both...edges and centering were 9.5 so now you know where to look. Do you see anything with surface or a bad corner? If you do then leave it...if you do not then crack that sucker...

Well I would crack it because a lot of people buy raw in hopes of getting a 9 or 9.5.

However, the fact of the matter is that an 8.5 is technically NM-MT, which is pack fresh.

I also recommend next time you send cards to BGS.Tell them anything lower then a 9.5 not to get slabbed.

I just make sure the center is in good shape and the corners.

Thanks for all the help guys. I think I'm just going to keep it slabbed and keep it in my PC for a while. Like some have said, 8.5 is still a near mint card so it's not like it has any major defects and its still a nice card to have. I also wouldn't feel right passing the card off as raw even though it already has been graded. I feel like an 8.5 could sell for the same as raw if I decide to sell at some point and I'm happy with that. Plus I like the card being slabbed. It keeps it protected

Anyway you choose there is no wrong or right. My cards go from pack to toploader. Everything I have had graded I cannot tell difference between 9 or 9.5...however, I can tell an 8.5 corner or surface which was your grades...can you see why Beckett gave you 8.5s for those categories? Take magnifier to corners and surface and you should see problem? Not sure why answers should scare anyone from buying. My raw cards will only sell ungraded if worth less than $100. All others would be graded. If I got an 8.5 back then I did not adequately prescreen card. Or it came from pack this way. Either way I doubt there exists much of a market for a 2011 card graded 8.5 unless it is very rare /5 or better. All my opinion only...hold that card and in 15 years an 8.5 looks much better. Heck, even 9.5 cards with a 9 auto get much less. Not fair but who can control how an athlete signs.
