I dont do alot of posting on the baseball boards, but im a football forum regular. Most of my collecting is based on my Blaine gabbert pc now.Anyway,i was screwing around on ebay the other day, looking at older sets and boxes and found "the set"i wanted to have the year i started collecting(1986) which was the fleer sluggers vs pitchers box set.Being 14 years old i never got it as i had to pick and choose what i could buy at the time.So needless to say,i now own it along with the 1986 topps traded set (got rid of mine many years ago),also after 26 years i was able to afford the 1986 sportflics rookie set,1986 donruss rookies set,a vending box of 1986 topps (god i hope i get that 2nd year Dwight gooden that eluded me all those years ago, lol),unopened box of topps mini league leaders, the 1986 and 87 fleer mini sets, and a box of 1988 score.Gonna be a good mailweek this week and a nice reminder of why i got hooked on cards as a 14 year old kid.

I have been trying to finish my 1987 Topps set. Getting all the error cards is a lot harder than I thought, especially for that mass produced set.

I collected as a child from 1976 - 1980 buying packs at PDQ and Tom Thumb, those were the days. I still had my childhood collection as an adult, but was stupid enough to sell the whole collection in about 1991, I got OK money, but from a nostalgia standpoint I sure wish I would have held on to them. So I have been buying singles lately for those years and I have sure enjoyed collecting them again, it is a nice break from the current cards which feels more like investing. I have also been dabbling in 1981 - 1984 because those cards are affordable, and seem fairly vintage still, and are for the most part players that are pre steroid era.

I recently repurchased the card that started my collecting bug .. a 1953 Bowman color Yogi Berra. I still buy the boxes of the old stuff as well .. strange how the smell of the fresh cards resonate in the mind. Was grinning ear to ear recently opening a box of wildcard football .. the senses all came back instantly. Was awesome !! : )

I keep finding myself buying cards i could never afford when i was younger. I'm not sure why but it is a lot of fun to add those cards to the collection.

As a kid I'd go to the weekly Parsippany, NJ show with 5 bucks in my pocket and somehow make it last two hours.
Last year I went to the National with 600 bucks in my pocket, spent 40 and went home.
I'm just glad I can afford the cards I wanted as a kid without killing my budget!
I used to buy PSA/BGS 8s of modern cards just to save money. Now I aim for 9.5s/10s because it's what I want!
It hasn't hurt that gems are much less expensive now than they were in the late 90s.
And now I mostly collect 50s Topps. The cards just have so much more art appeal than a lot of the modern stuff.

I recently opened some old packs chasing some RCs from my childhood
1980 and 1982 Topps Football (Simms and LT)
1984 Topps Baseball (Mattingly)
1989-90 Fleer Basketball and Hoops Basketball (Reggie Lewis)
I know it's cheaper to just buy the RC's (I actually have some of those already) but I wanted to remember what it was like chasing something as simple as a rookie instead of the Tebow/Cam/Stras/Harper of the day

I really like the look of a few of the old topps sets but haven't tried to complete em.
