I've seen a few like this lately and while it doesn't look like it's being shilled, I guess I just don't get why within a day of a 99 cent auction the bidding gets up to almost $2000. I'm sure it's a very expensive card, but wouldn't people typically wait towards the end of the auction to bid? I mean this still has 9 days left.
KOBE BRYANT 1997-98 TOPPS FINEST EMBOSSED GOLD REFRACTOR /74 MADE LAKERS DIE CUT | eBay (http://www.ebay.com/itm/KOBE-BRYANT-1997-98-TOPPS-FINEST-EMBOSSED-GOLD-REFRACTOR-74-MADE-LAKERS-DIE-CUT-/320914918947?pt=US_Basketball&hash=item4ab8050e23)
Is it really that good of a card, or is something else up?

90's rare basketball inserts are the worth 1000 times anything else in this hobby now.. you didn't know that?
I sold a Jordan Legacy collection insert (/100) for $1500 about 2 years ago.. same card sells for $3500 today lol

Still though...it seems weird to bid it up that high that fast.

It's not weird. Some bidders throw numbers out there quick, some don't. If the last of these sold in the 3,500-3,900 range, this isn't even really high yet. Not everyone waits until the end to snipe.

If any of those bidders really wanted to win it, they wouldn't ever throw up a number.
Its a fact that NONE of those current bidders have any intention of winning it.
These bidders want to see who the winner is or just wants to make sure that this card doesnt go cheap and lower the market value.
