As I'm trying to downsize my collection, I'm finding that some of the cards I have and want to sell are are damaged beyond what I would feel comfortable offering for sale, so I'm thinking about having them graded by BGS to take out any guess work on condition. Does anyone have any thoughts on this?
Here is one of the cards I'm contemplating. It is dinged on the top and bottom corners of the right side.

I'm open to hearing all input, so good or bad, let me have it!
it looks like it has creases all over the front also :) j/k...
The cost of grading IMO doesn't make sense for damaged cards. It might alleviate the question about the condition but you will lose money on the deal

You know, maybe with all those creases on the front I won't get as big a hit on the corners........:)

I wouldn't grade it. Just be honest with the prospective buyer.

I wouldn't grade it, just be honest with potential buyers. I know some people who are going to put them in their pc aren't too picky with condition, but still expect to pay a little less for them. For example, I don't mind buying slightly damaged cards if they are going in my pc, but don't expect to pay ebay for them.

Um, why would you grade a card you knew was damaged? Isn't the purpose of grading to "bring out" the perfect/near-perfect qualities of said card?
Makes no sense but that seems to be the norm around here.

only reason a card should be graded that isn't perfect is if it is SUPER high end, or if in general the set was horrible for condition and you have a great condition copy of the card (see 2011 inception and I believe it was 2008 exquisite was really bad!!!)

The days of cards coming out of packs in "gradeable" condition is long gone. All of the high end releases get rattled around in the packaging and get messed up.

Thank you for this, and thanks to everyone else for their input.

What is the true purpose of having cards graded? It seems the answer to that is debatable in itself, since buyers and sellers will look at grading differently. A seller with a perfect card will get it graded in hopes of getting "perfect card" dollars out of it; while buyers generally just want to get the most for their money.
My impression of graded cards is that the grade puts buyers and sellers on the same page with less debate about the card's condition, where as cards that are not graded almost always look to be in better condition to the card's seller than it will to the card's buyer. So the condition debate is what I would hope to avoid by having a damaged card graded.
