I looked all over their website but I couldn't find an answer. Both BGS and PSA stipulate what constitutes a Gem Mint, Mint, NM, etc. but I can't find any type of description or examples of what might affect grades on a comic submitted to CGC.

So, for example, if a book has one slightly bent or soft corner, how does that impact the grade? If the spine of the book has a slight split, how does that impact the grade? Etc, etc.

They don't provide that information as to how they grade it. After getting a book graded, you can call in and they'll share grading notes with you, provided you can get a grader on the phone. It's kind of difficult to get solid information, but I have a grading scale I use that might help you determine grade. I'll post it in a separate thread so we can all use it as a guideline.
