Time for the july break, last month was great with the Brady pull. We will vote for boxes after all payments have been received. Also we have $541.85 to use this month, as with last month it will be $42.67 a person unless I did not ship your cards from last month, in which case it will be $38.68. Thanks

Here is the break down of the group;

* 16 members , 2 teams per member.
* $40 dues must be paid by the 2nd Sunday of each month (see price break
down below)
* Members names will be randomed each month my a mod for a snake draft, the
draft will take place in the forum after the random and must be completed by
The 3rd Sunday of each month.
* If the group would like to do a hit draft as well, the members will be randomed
Twice.
* Any trades must be completed between members in the group and must be
Posted in the forum no later than 2 hours before the break. I will pm both
members to confirm the trade.
* The break will take place on the fourth Sunday of the month at 10pm est on
Ustream, I will post a link and scans of the cards in the thread after the break
* All cards will be shipped on the following Monday with DC, if you would like
Insurance on your card(s) pm me after the break

Who gets what card?

* If a card is of a player in college uniform or of a retired player, the player goes
to the team who drafted him
* if the card is not of a NFL player or the player was not drafted, then the card
will be randomed by a mod to the group
* cards with multiple players will go to the member who has 51% or more of the
Teams on the card, if no one has 51% or more of the teams then the card will
be randomed by a mod between the members who have a player on the card.

Price break down

* $40 a month total
* $1.46 pay pal fees (2.9% +.30)
* $3.14 USPS first class
* $0.85 delivery conformation
* $1.00 supplies ( top loaders, bubble mailers, etc)

So that leaves $536.80 a month for boxes ($40*16=$640, $6.45*16=$103.20, $640-$103.20=$536.80)
+5.05 form last month, so this month is $541.85

Other

* If a card wins the best pull of the month the box will be broken between the
group
* If a member fails to pay by the deadline a back up will take his spot in the
group, the member will have the option to be placed at the bottom of the back
up list

Since 2012 really has only 2 boxes I'd consider buying for this month (prestige and Inception) how about we open 1 box from each year since 2007? I imagine most of the breaks after this month will be 2012-centric so this is likely the month to do a break like this. I know there has been some talk of doing a HIT break this month, but I think a break like this would be really fun (and fair) as a team draft. Just off the top of my head, look at some of the great teams:

2012: Colts (luck), Redskins (RG3), Browns (Richardson, Weeden)
2011: Panthers (Newton), Bengals (Dalton, Green), Cowboys (Murrey)
2010: Broncos (Tebow), Rams (Bradford), Cowboys (Dez), Pats (Gronk)
2009: Lions (Stafford), Texans (foster), Eagles (mccoy)
2008: Falcons (Ryan), Ravens (flacco, Rice), Titans (johnson), Raiders (mcfadden)
2007: Vikings (Peterson), Lions (johnson)

Right there is 16 teams, meaning we each get a chance at a fantastic rookie auto. Unlike most team drafts where there are just a handful of great teams, nearly all teams would have a chance to pull a sick rookie card.

Here is just an example of the break we could do:

2011 Certified ($95)
2010 Platinum ($90)
2009 SP Authentic ($90)
2008 Limited ($84)
2007 Contenders ($75)

One of the downsides to this will be the lack of really high end product but I think the fun of the draft and busting some older boxes make it worth it.

My vote would be a case of Inception. In a hit draft everyone would get an auto and the rest of tje relic cards would be randomized (8 total) of those plus base amd numbered inserts. Only problem i see with older items are expired redemptions they may not honor.

Yeah, that is why I picked Panini products for the older products as they will honor expired redemptions. The only gamble would be on the 09 sp authentic but we could save some money and get an 09 elite or 09 contenders instead.

I'd be down with just getting Inception, though. Though 6 boxes would better fit our budget than an 8 box case.

My vote is to do another batch of 2011 boxes. As previously mentioned, there isn't enough 2012 products out that are good enough yet to go with those. And as we all know, products from different years kill the point of the team draft.

There is an interesting idea of doing a box from each year, but the only downside to that IMO, is that there is very, very slim value on a lot of the older boxes.

Overall, I'd say the best bang for the buck is another round of 2011 boxes.

2 boxes of 2011 Crown= $148
1 box of 2011 Contenders= $109
1 box of 2011 Plates & Patches= $109
1 box of 2011 Gold Standard= $125

That's a real nice set that only comes out to around $490ish which will leave us a little more to stack onto next month.

Update...mathmatically speaking option #2 has the majority of the votes and with 8 votes can't be outvoted with 4 remaining votes left (John doesn't get a vote). I will update him with the boxes to order and have him notify the mods to randomize.

All I would say is that it would have been a better move to hang in for a couple more months and see how it goes. Being honest, it rubs me the wrong way that you hit a huge card the first month and then drop out the first time you don't get your way.

At the very least a simple post saying, "Hey guys, I'm really sorry about this, I'm just not enjoying this group break as much as I thought I would. I'm going to make this my last month and then bow out. If any of the back-ups would like my spot this month, I'll give it up."

Something like that would have been a little better, IMHO

I think all numbered and parallel cards notthe containing auto or jsy/patch should be considered a slot and then all other base cards is one as well. Just my two thoughts and i think that follows other group breaks as well. I could very well be wrong thougj

We could just do a random with whatever is left over and whatever order that is could pick from the extra hits, base or parallels.

I guess it's a good problem to have!!! The only two ways are snake it back or randomize the list again. Snaking is the safest bet so it equals out amongst those at the bottom, oR we can randomize.

Actually after thinking about this again the best way to decide would be to have John make a decision...he's the only one not in the draft. Whatever decision he makes should be the same for every break moving forward.

Extra hits in snake format seems fair. IMO it makes it a lot more balanced and gives the lower picks something to look forward to.

For some reason, this seems like a major dead time for all things football card related. I haven't bought much in the last few weeks and I'm finding it hard to sell stuff too. I think this is a time frame where a lot of people are saving up for upcoming releases.

I think this is the "calm before the storm". From a buyers perspective, it feels like I have made some easy, cheap purchases I probably couldn't have made during the season. From a sellers perspective, well, I have made some cheap sales that I probably wouldn't have made during the season!

I think with the excitement of the preseason to see the new rookie class, plus then the actual season starting and the release of some of the "better", strictly opinion, sets, things will pick up considerably.

Besides rg3 and luck, I just can't get excited about the 2012 draft class. At least 2011 had quite a few people to be hyped about...this year only three. Anyone else agree???

I actually checked on the 2011 vs. 2012 first round picks the other day. I looked at offensive skill position players (QB, WR, RB, TE) which are usually what drive value.

Top 5--2011 had 2 skill position players drafted, 2012 had 4

Top 10--5 players in both years

First Round--8 players in 2011, 2012 had 11

Based on first round picks, 2012 looks more exciting on paper. However, the Browns & Jags were 2 of the top 5 picks and they don't get much hobby love. I think the overall mix of teams that drafted skill players in Round 1 is what might be making 2012 less exciting from a before-season perspective.

Now that training camp is upon us, I can't wait to see some of these guys in action!

I need the draft to be tomorrow, if breaking til 10est I'll be at work by the time the draft starts. Unless you can start break like 8 est and draft afterwards.

I'm down for whatver, but I'd be willing to bet we'd probably have to start the draft tomorrow so everyone will be prepared. Although really, I guess it really doesn't matter when it starts since we have to wait for the guy in front anyways.
