MARS ATTACKS #1 Sells Out in a Big Way!

IDW Publishing is proud to announce that the premiere issue of our MARS ATTACKS series by comics superstars John Layman and John McCrea has officially sold out of its substantial first printing!

IDW Publishing is reporting that Mars Attacks #1 has sold out of its first print run, with all 57 variant covers totally gone from Diamond Comics Distributors. The roughly 55,000 copies that sold through at Diamond will make the issue one of the best-selling single issues of the year not sold by DC or Marvel, well ahead of the estimated 35,000 copies of X-O Manowar #1 that sold out for Valiant last month.

No immediate plans were announced for a second printing

The #1 for Mars Attacks had the 55 1962 cards as the covers and 56,57 variant covers came in just the box set I believe.

Personally I ordered 2 books from tfaw and planned on picking up the other 53 gradually if I liked it. Not a good plan, LOL. I'm actually out of town right now and ordered them before I left, so I haven't read it yet or know what comic variant I have is. But based on the reviews and it being sold out I'm sure I will. Now I have to decide if I want to order a few boxes of Mars Attacks trading cards or not. I don't want those to get sold out too. :o

I have only bought 2 of the Mars Attacks #1 and actually liked the books story and art, now I'm going after 3 of the covers I like the most. I'll actually sell the two I have in order to get the 3 I want more, but no way am I going after all 57 covers.

Is this a whole new story to the Mars Attacks brand or just a re-print of the series from the mid 90's? I've always loved the Mars Attacks series and this is the first I'm hearing of this release. Thanks guys.

It's a new story based on the trading cards it appears, but done in a very stylish, fun way. I REALLY enjoyed reading issue #1 much more than I thought I would. I bought it for the retro-cover and property, but actually ended up liking the comic and will be picking it up again when #2 hits.
