Is eBay buyer protection effective enough to not worry about buying from someone with 0 feedback?

YES you should not worry, you are covered by paypal & your credit card company/bank. Always pay via paypal.

why ask here? wouldnt asking ebay be more appropriate?
I wanted to ask here as it relates to cards. IE if there undisclosed damage on the back of the card, etc.

There is a return policy now in place even if the seller has it as no returns.

Is it a high value card?
Because if it is, you'd think the seller would try to build up some equity with some cheap ones before selling it, that's what i did.
So if it's high value, I'd be skeptical, if not, go for it

It's high value. As long as I'm protected I'll jump on it.

Why be skeptical if you're paying with paypal? Even better to pay with a CC attached to paypal. If the sellers tries to dick ya in some way like not send the item then you are still covered but even better because the seller committed theft, either way still covered!

If I'm buying something of high value, I want to know that it's coming from someone reputable.
Yes, you're protected through ebay/paypal, but then you have to deal with the hassle of filing a claim, and sending it back, and there is always a chance you'll get screwed over somehow in the end.

I agree but like you said "a chance" but highly unlikely. I started on eBay with zero feedback as did everyone else. I guess I got a little more in people & think everyones good until they prove me wrong. OP goodluck & I'm it will be alright just follow your instinct.

I think seller agreed to send card first, and then have me pay. He's been a member since 2004 and seems like a serious seller. We will see.

If true, that seller is an idiot asking to get ripped off...

Considering he had no feedback I thought it was a reasonable request.

There is ZERO risk for buyers on eBay now. Go for it if you want it.
