Donruss Americana Sneak Peek: Part I

First in a Four-Part Series

Donruss officials have been beside themselves since the first mention was made of something called "Donruss Americana" way back in the summer. Over the course of the next four weeks – every Wednesday exclusively through www.beckett.com – you'll start to understand exactly why they've been so excited.

Beckett.com visitors will receive the rare first glimpses of Donruss' history-soaked new product that's chock full of pop culture luminaries, actors, entertainers and a sampling of sports icons.

This week, Donruss sheds some light on one of the most decorated and recognized actors in the history of the silver screen: Humphrey Bogart.

Bogart, the star of such timeless classics as "Casablanca," "The Maltese Falcon," "The Treasure of the Sierra Madre" and "The African Queen," is something of a cover boy for Donruss Americana. He appears on the product's packaging and will be featured in the set with a base card, a memorabilia card and a cut autograph card.

To that end, the company has procured a pair of Bogart's shoes as well as a movie-worn shirt from Bogart's role as Major Jed Webbe in the 1953 Korean War film "Battle Circus." The shirt, by the way, came with the original MGM Studio tag sewn into the collar.

In 1999, the American Film Institute named "Bogey" the No. 1 male screen legend of all time.

"We always strive for the highest quality products and the highest value and Bogart is symbolic of those things," says Donruss Marketing Manager Scott Prusha. "He's one of the greatest and most recognizable names in movie history. We thought associating with him was the perfect way to kick off the Americana franchise."

For more information on Donruss Americana, due out in January, check out the company's special website devoted to the product.
