Wow, this one came out of nowhere.
I wonder if Olt or Perez is involved. I would highly doubt the Cubs even bothered asking about Profar.

Under. Maybe Perez, but no way Olt or Profar are in that deal.

Correction: One of players going to #Cubs is a pitcher, one a position player. Both at Class A. "

Cubs were scrambling to get rid of Dempster, they weren't going to ask for much anymore.

That would be quite a coup for the Cubs, but I doubt it. The Cubs had a deal in place with Atlanta for Delgado in exchange for Dempster so the "market price" for Dempster seems to be set at less than a prospect like Buckel. If it isn't Perez, I'm going to guess Neil Ramirez or Kevin Matthews plus someone else.

There has to be more than 2 Class A level players, I would think if that's the case then the Yankees would have been able to pull off the same deal, especially with Theo involved. He would have loved to help the Yanks!

Theo asked for Bichette Jr and someone else I heard.

Nah. Dempster isn't Cliff Lee. If the Cubs get either Matthews or Lamb and one of Cone, Odor, or Deglan (especially Cone or Odor), that's a pretty fair trade for both teams.

Villanueva is a nice prospect although he's young. Hendricks? Not a big loss for Texas. Pretty much a push for both teams although the Cubs/Braves deal for Demp would have been better for Chicago.

Dempster put the Cubs FO in a tough spot, would have much rather had Delgado, but he nixed the deal, after he said he would go to ATL.
Villanueva appears to be a good prospect and is blocked at 3B in TEX, and Hendricks is having a great year in High A ball.

Word was that Rangers were working on a deal for Dempster or Matt Garza....Dempster made more sense medically

He's sorta blocked in CHC too, right in between Vitters and Candelario

How did Theo screw it up??
Demp says he will accept trade to ATL or LAD
Cubs trade Demp to ATL for Delgado
Demp nixes trade saying he was blindsided, even though said he would go to ATL
Cubs have no leverage as Demp says LAD is where he wants to go
Deadline nears and Cubs get a decent return from TEX
How did Theo screw it up???

I'm hoping that Soriano still gets moved and its a shame Garza had to get hurt but I don't think Epstein did too bad considering the circumstances.
A trade potentially fleecing the Braves, and an okay trade for Dempster who screwed things up by acting like a child and drove his own value down. I can't wait to be rid of these 10-5 trade vetoes Hendry cursed the team with.

So when will Dempster pitch for the Rangers, wasn't he suppose to pitch tonight for the Cubs? I moved down to Dallas about a year ago and haven't gone to a game yet. Now I have even more reason to, other than just that fact that its baseball, with Dempster and Soto joining the team.

By waiting to the last minute, he had plenty of time to work out a better deal for the Cubs, and I don't believe Dempster blocked as much as has been said he opened up opps. for additional clubs to be involved, I'm not saying Dempster is an All-star but there were 4-5 clubs VERY interested and he should have brought more in return, that's how Theo screwed it up IMO
Theo does not do well under pressure, and it has happened before and will happen again! If your a Cubs Fan get used to it!

Not true at all... He traded dempster who is in the last year of his contract and hes the one nixed the braves deal. The dodgers werent going to give up there top prospect for him. Theo managed to move 4 players away at the deadline i think he did a great job. Are farm system is continuing to grow and looks pretty promising

Pretty sure the Cubs took the best deal available for Dempster, considering he really put them up against it by nixing the Braves deal. I think the Cubbies FO did well at the deadline, Dempster is a 2 month rental, they sold high on Maholm and Reed Johnson, and I am actually surprised they got anything for Soto who has been flat out awful this season.
I am not sure of who was offered from the other teams, but I am guessing the Cubs took the best deal available, and they were at the mercy of Dempster to begin with.

bottom line:
DEMPSTER is one of the classiest guys in the bigs. I don't blame him a bit for not wanting to take the ATL deal.
