Upper Deck has taken a great product and ruined it. THis has to be the worst product of the year. 5 cards at $600 with 1 being a base card. That means that every card in the box needs to average value at $150 to just feel like you broke even from a value standpoint. What they did was they took cards from the Ultimate Collection pool and just put 4 of those cards in the box and called it Exquiste. I havent seen 1 break where I would feel good. Problem is...we still buy it.

Nah, you still buy it. I stay far, far away.
That is the risk you take on this hobby. And it is a hobby if you are all ways mad if you dont get something good than that is sad. And i would rather get i bad box 90% of the time than get a Jordan,Kobe,or Jebron auto in every box.
Just giving my 2 cents.

I would like to pull a Jordan, Kobe or Lebron auto in every box. Assuming that you weren't guaranteed one in every box and they weren't serial numbered to 100000000000000000000000. You do make a good point about people doing this as a hobby and complaining that they won't get there money back though.

and now that I think about it, I still wouldn't mind having one of each if they were numbered that high because it would just be cool to have autos of 3 greats.

I dont care about sell value, its just value overall. When you buy a premium product you expect value. I far from expect to get sell value out of boxes. Getting a Cory Brewer auto in a high end product is wrong. Money back is one thing, taking a total beating is another. If I spend $1800 for a case, i dont expect to make money, but I dont expect to lose $800-$1000 either. I have had lots of products that I opened and felt like I got value but didnt make any money and lost. If you break wax you dont make money IMO. I break for fun, but I expect some level of value for the product.

I understand everyone's complaints about the product, but this is how exquisite has been every year! 07/08 only averaged 3 hits, and there were plenty of scrub RPAs and patch autos in the product, just like this years.
Some not-so-good boxes shouldn't come as any surprise...

Well, since I'm filled with self-hatred I bought a case...and a box (hoping to make up for the case). It was brutal! I'll post it in the breaks after scanning.

I think it looks pretty solid
all boxes are hit or miss man
Exquisite is just that on a grander scale, I honestly think the design is gorgeous and if I was to hit the right rookie auto even I would be happy.
Sometimes you pay for 200 bucks in entertainment, if you actually still enjoy busting wax and hopefully you get some value in there and the loss isn't so bad.
The way I see it, how much does it cost to get food delivered? A box of exquisite is like ordering food out 15-20 times, it's not THAT much money.

Above all else, card collecting is not a business turned hobby, its a hobby that turned into a business. If you ask some of the higher ups that work at these companies, they'll be the first to tell you that their products are not priced based on who you can get but rather what you can get. As they see it, there isnt another product that yields multiple patch cards, multiple player autos, and not a single card #erd to more than 225. Essentially, every card is SUPPOSED to be this rare & uncanny collectible.
In 1955 there wasn't a Mickey Mantle card in every pack, but at 10 cents a pack nobody cared. Granted, a lot has changed in 60 years, and today you can get substantially MORE value in a pack of cards than ever before, but the ideology is the same. If you collect to make money, then you'll be forever poor. ESPECIALLY if you're opening a case of Exquisite thinking to yourself, "Lebron, Jordan, Kobe or BUST"
At the end of the day, the market has become so saturated with these memorabilia & auto cards that the only ones worth collecting are the Big name guys! If you told me 10 years ago that i could buy a Magic Johnson Auto for less than 40 bucks, I'd laugh at you, then i'd slap you, then i'd laugh at you again. 10+ years ago people were paying north of 50 bucks for ANY Upper Deck Game jersey regardless of the player. Now i can buy 15 of em off Ebay for that same price.
Do yourself a favor, don't collect to turn a profit

I Think Baseball prospect rookie cards is the way to go if you're trying to turn a profit. You have to know when to buy and sell.

very very good points by twizzla...howeveri disagree withone thing
while not neccessarily "busting wax for profit" is the route to go, i did bust my first case of football earlier this year (2009 Prestige). I did this because ive never busted that much wax, and i enjoy the hunt for "the card"...did i go in expecting to make money back--no, but it was nice to sell most of the hits and get substantial amount back and i put that towards more boxes etc...so i can understand where the "value" part comes into play
i guess this is higher end for people with money to burn/gamble with and i understand that..but when one shells out $1500-$2000 for a 3 box case and get 2nd-3rd year players/scrubs as well as some rookies who are the same, i can understand the feeling..what "value" do these cards hold? not thinking about "sell value" but what if your trying to trade or what not..unless you find a collector of said player, your gonna be kinda hard pressed to get any value back regardless if this is suppose to be the "rare" cards
like i posted in one of the box breaks..what is so Exquisite about taking a base card, putting a plain one color piece of jersey on it, and slapping a serial number of #/50 or #/35 or whatever?? and these so called hot boxes that ive seen-example of one on here who got a Mayo hot box...well yeah he got one of the better rookies but the cards he got were ALL THE SAME!! base RC, same card with 1 plain jersey piece, same base card with an auto, same base card with a patch and Auto...again great player to hit, but no variety or anything??

ok so if this is such an obviously pointless thread, why did you waste your time reading it and even more time by writing your "pointless" response...if nothing to add to the discussion why even post at all? just move on please

I just saw a break...apparently if you get a printing plate you only get one other hit and 3 base cards...(That or the case was messed up).

I guess it's my turn to add to what I would believe to be a useless thread...I agree with many about this being a hobby and expecting value from the box from others as well, BUT if your in this from a profit stand point, your not a collector in the first place...
With that said, I am 100% sure that if you (being the person that posted negatively) about this product when cracking a box/case and pulled a scrub, you would most definitely talk garbage about it! But wait there's more...if you were to pull let's say a logoman Jordan/Lebron/Kobe, this would now be the best product of the year!!!....amazing what that does for a persons opinion of a product.........
Now for the ones that don't even touch this product AT ALL, to include singles, I think you have a more honest approach to rating this....but once again, how many out there really don't touch this product at all, even on the secondary market. This is a hobby for some and a career for others. For those that market the hobby for a profit, you will never be satisfied with a product unless it makes you money. I have rarely came across someone that appreciates a product for exactly what it is...UltimateDeron being one of them.
So.....sorry to make this a long read, but it's a never ending thread that can go on for years to come about the quality of a product...let's make card collecting like it was when I was a kid, about the hobby of it and enjoying your collection....:)!

I think some of us are dreaming that one day the card companies will come out with a product with a minimum guarantee of the box's price in return value.

The problem is UD still uses old Patch like KG's Wolves patch at Celtics card, Lewis' Sonics patch at Magic card etc.
Funny thing is there are too many Patch and used card(Yah nice looking card but this is EXQUISITE !!) without autograph !
(UD did the same thing at Ultimate. Most of cards were just multi Jersey.)
For me, this season Exquisite looks used garage sale of UD.
(Of course, there will be crazy KB and LBJ autographs but those are really really small part of this season EXQ product.)
I think most of throughly level of UD Black(there is patch dual autograph and Tag autograph etc.) is better than this season EXQ.
