View Full Version : 09 SPA box...cannot...stop...crying...

So as I mentioned in another thread, I recently splurged for 4 boxes, 2 each of 09 SPA and 11 Contenders. Tonight I got my boxes and decided I would open one per night, starting with the first SPA box. Going along, a couple of less than stellar autos, a few regular rookies /999...and then...I hit it...the only good card of the box...the only even close to good card of the box...

#397 Auto Patch Gold Percy Harvin, #d to 20

Yes, I hit the greatest patch auto hit of my entire collecting life...but of course it was an expired redemption.:eek::eek::eek: I think I am going to need therapy. To top it all off, I was shorted a hit, as I only got 3 autos (including the redemption) and no patches or GU. So basically it turned into the worst box of my life (save for maybe the 11 NT I cracked) to add insult to injury. I can't even look at my other boxes right now. UGH!

Maybe the other boxes will make up for this one? Good luck with the other 3!

They definitely still have that harvin and will send you it.

My condolences on that jeter. Wow what a card. Ud wouldn't help you get that? I'd demand something....

Call UD and see if they have it and will send you one. They should have some left but they used to be pretty stingy about expired stuff.

Considering Ive gotten about 5 of the SPA Harvins (base version) as replacements, Id assume they still have one or more of the golds. Maybe youll luck out and theyll send one out.

Thanks everyone. I contacted UDA and they said no Harvin, no replacement, no nothing. I will not sit here and trash a company when there is an expiration date right on the card, but I will say in an industry where every collector dollar counts, I am surprised they take such a hard line zero stance for a redemption that is just months past the deadline. Panini has always worked with me and at least given me a replacement for a missed hit, which they said they wouldn't do either.

That's cause UD is to busy selling the product hits in their own products. I feel for you

I had the base RAP of Harvin and it was just 2 or 3 days expired and after several emails with UD, they refused to replace it or redeem it.

UP customer service is crap. I do not open boxes of their product.

Did you try to redeem the code?

Did you try to redeem the code?

Yeah all it does is pop up with a generic "Code is expired, you are SOL" type of thing. That's why I contacted their "customer support".

Why do redemptions even have expiration dates? Makes no sense to me

If anything it should be an expiration date on that exact card but a replacement should be mandatory if after that date and they've given that card out already

But I guess that makes too much sense

I totally agreed with this.

I understand card companies cannot keep all the cards and think the redemption may appear someday. But since the redemption counts as a hit in your box, they should at least put some language like "the redemtpion is redeemable for the card listed up to mm/dd/yy. After the expiration date, you will get a random autograph card."

I've said it before I'll say it again, Expired redemptions should be considered "Unclaimed Property" which is exactly what they are, they don't belong to the company despite what thier experation date says & should be dealt with according to the laws of unclaimed property. Has anyone ever tried to tackle the issue using this method, I'm not sure, hopefully someone will try one day.

I think someone actually did, but I am not positive.

If I would ever cry over a card it would have been this one busted it about a year ago since the product was cheap and yes it still hurts. I forgot to mention that this was the biggest hit I ever busted in any sport since I started collecting again.

Preach on!

Well said. If they wont honor them they should be forced to write that on the boxes they are selling. Not writing that on the boxes should be taken to court. That's bullspit and deceitful to buyers.

There was a man in MI that sued UD for expired redemptions and won as it was against state law here apparently. Maybe look into some laws about those expired redemptions

Why this isn't an industry standard, is just absolutely beyond me

Sorry about UD being such pricks with regards to honoring the redemption.

I see you're in Texas - this is actually pretty relevant to our Texas Deceptive Trade Practices Act. These products guarantee X hits in the box, they advertise and represent X hits per box, without disclosing that boxes from 200x and before, have changed odds, with redemptions that can not be redeemed.

I would argue, that when I pick up a box of 2008 Finest, it advertises 3 hits, 1 per mini box; there is no disclosure whatsoever on the box, that redemptions expire in 2009, and that any and all redemptions obtained after that date will not be honored, and that boxes of this product purchased AFTER 2009 MAY result in less than the advertised number of hits.

This is a failure to disclose pertinent information, that may otherwise affect the purchaser's decision to buy or NOT BUY the product. Which is a violation of Texas law.

I think if anyone had some time to burn, or know a rich retired collector , a Texas lawyer would have a fun time filing a DTPA claim against all of the big card companies.

I just posted a thread about Panini and the same kind of thing (not nearly the card you SHOULD be getting)...Panini filled my expired redemption though. After reading this I will no longer buy any UD products.....not a huge loss for them but its the only thing I can do. Panini's customer service should be the standard in card collecting....not the exception.

i'm scared though, because their current level of CS at Panini IS the exception. Once David's email gets passed around a bit more so everybody can complain to him, i suspect it'll get worse again.

Here is the thing, the card companies have already made the money from those old boxes, they have probably thousands of unclaimed cards from redemptions just laying around....why is it so hard for them to actually perform customer service in order to create customer loyalty and just give replacement card(s) in approximation to the current value of the expired redemption? I just don't get it, who is running these companies that they just don't care about customer service?....business 101, I recommend they take that class.

Check upper deck on twitter. Just today they posted something for expired unscratched redemptions. It says heres your chance to get something for it. Might be worth a try.
