A pleasant surprise after a long overdue Topps American Heritage redemption

Months ago I received an American Heritage redemption for a B.B. King relic which I was looking forward to receiving since I'm an avid guitar player. After all this time I gave up hope for ever getting the card until today when I received an unusually large package from Topps. Inside was a letter stating that my B.B. King had been replaced by a card of equal value. I reached in and pulled out an entire box of Topps American Heroes! I got a stack of base and various chromes, a Gordon Roberts Medal of Honor patch and a Space Shuttle Discovery Orbiter Payload Bay Liner which looks like a piece of copper flashing. I don't collect cards anymore, although I still follow the hobby, so I'll probably give them to someone at a card show. Anyone else get one of these mysterious boxes?

I don't know, I mean if I had my heart set on the BB King.. I might be a tad bit upset. Because while you did get a box of cards, you didn't get that BB King relic...

Seems like this happens a lot with card redemptions now..?

Hmmmm, I've got a BB King redemption out there as well. I guess I'll start looking for my box too. Kinda stinks, as I was really looking forward to the BB relic. It was one of those things where the value to me is probably a lot higher than the $$ value Topps will put on the card.

Me too. I was wondering what was going on when I saw this big package and was all "Uhhh... I didn't order anything." I opened it and read the letter and kind of laughed. I basically just bought the pack that the redemption was in to check out the American Heritage product. Would've been cool to have the card but hey, something to open up tonight along with 3 other boxes of stuff (2 boxes of 2007 SP Legendary Cuts and 1 box of 2009 A&G) so I'll have a bit of fun.

I'll probably post this in the box breaks forum but I definitely traded up on the whole deal. First pack out of the box had a Heroes of Sport Relic card. Lou Gehrig pants! So that was really awesome. Definitely a better addition to the collection than a BB King relic (no offense to Mr. King of course:p).

I opened my box and got 3 relics.....nice since I was shorted one in the first box of my case. No major hits (I don't think anyway), but I agree it was a nice replacement for the card we missed out on. It seems strange they couldn't have gotten SOMETHING from BB to stick in as a relic though.
