I hope the Miami Heat take a chance on Greg Oden. If he can stay healthy (IF) I think he could be a solid contributer on that team.

if, thats what it always comes down to with greg oden. i honestly think he would have dominated if he could have stayed healthy. if the heat's medical staff thinks he can play 15-20 minutes a night and stay healthy, i say bring him on!!!!!

He's hurt until January.. if the Heat are struggling (which I doubt) they MIGHT take a flyer on him.. but I doubt it

I mean they need a big solid bust to sit at the end of the bench now that Curry has left, because frankly, that is all you are gonna get out of Oden this year

Uhh...pretty sure Greg Oden has Silly Putty where his knees used to be...
Also...he's 54 years old. Don't think teams are in the market for any players with those qualities...

I could see Oden in Miami along with them getting Brandon Roy and they win titles there, nothing but a waste of space here in the pacific northwest (im not a blazer fan just so you know) and then go win multiple titles there.

everytime oden steps on the floor his knees blow apart, you cant fix that, his knee's are naturally weak from being so tall, he is never going to be anything in the NBA at this point. playing basketball puts a huge amount of wear & tear on your knees, anyone with weak knee's is automatically out of the game.

why would you want someone who has never proved himself at the NBA level to play for the Heat? this guy is probably one of the most overrated NBA players ever simply because he has never even played a complete season in the league. Here is his current stats while being in the NBA
3 NBA season - 82 games played 9.4 ppg 7.3 rpg 1.4 bpg
I just don't understand why this guy is talked about as if he is a mythical legend

arent you gonna miss the bus?
obviously the OP has lots of hope in the guy...im sure the Blazers GM did aswell being that he dumped millions down the drain on him.I noticed his name was mentioned often in the "who suffered the most due to injury" thread aswell.I just think the hype/hope is not warranted in Greg Oden that is all...plain and simple

what bus would i miss? you aren't making sense.
i don't see anyone saying that oden is a great player. the op clearly said the heat could take a chance on him and maybe get a solid contributer.
in what world does solid contributer equate to mythical legend?
i have heard rumors of a mythical penny collector though that is world renowned!

but it makes people talk about you like a mythical legend was more my point "ex. Sam Bowie" who was actually #2, but you get the idea.
mainly because oden was taken over durant, bowie was taken over jordan etc.

yeah i get ya man,the flip side of that though you don't hear people talk about the "busts" who were taken number 1 and did not live up the their expectations but have more or a contribution than Oden in the NBA.
Michael Olowokandi
Kwame Brown
Joe Smith

you of all people should understand how injuries can ruin a career. Look at who you collect. Injuries cost him his career. Oden just never got his started. Hardaway was made of glass too FYI.

exactly my point ... Oden did not even get started in the league to be considered a star or anyone who can make an impact on a game consistantly.A player who tears his ACL numerous times is made of glass? have you ever torn your ACL?Than why would you make such a judgement?Watch what it does to D Rose 3 years from now.Penny made a huge impact in the league before his injuries took him out.Greg Oden did squat end of story.

He had the same injury that cost Greg Oden his career. The dreaded microfracture knee surgery. I HAVE IN FACT TORN MY ACL AND ACHILLES. So yes I can make that judgement! Your right he did have immediate impact, so did Grant Hill before his injury took his career. So to call him a bust because of injury was ludicris. I guess you think Len Bias is the ultimate bust since he didnt even play in a preseason game....what a joke!

Ok well i will take your word for that being it is the internet and all.. but yeah when it comes to the NBA Greg Oden and Len Bias are busts,Len Bias never played in the NBA so he is a nobody in NBA terms and Greg Oden is just a bust in the NBA.Grant Hill & Penny are very far from a busts

I never said they were. I stated that their careers were impacted hard by injuries. Calling Greg Oden a bust because of injuries is crazy to me. That is all. I do feel that taking a flyer on a 24 year old to play center for a championship team isn't a bad thing! He is only 24!!!! (even though he looks older)

haha i will give you that man them guys are not very good and suffered no injuries :)! still think Kwame and Fizer atleast have done more in the league though. You got to see it as a Blazer fan (that i am not) or the Owner who invested millions into this guy,Greg Oden may suck at the NBA level for as all as we know? He has yet to show anyone any different.Injuries destroyed him yes but i don't think he's done enough within the league to not consider him a bust.

ESPN NBA - C Greg Oden decides to resume playing career but not before 2013-14 season; Heat to pursue him - sources
But this means Oden will not play until 2014-15? And the Heat plans to wait that long?

it was sad seeing them getting outrebounded in last game
A bust would imply that his play sucked. Oden just can't stay healthy. Big difference. If the guy could string together a full season w/out playing in pain or missing significant time he'd probably be a pretty dominant player.

Whether he'll play again? Who knows...
But I give Oden a ton of credit. He has been at every Ohio State basketball game this year, supporting his guys, as he has been at OSU finishing his degree.
They put him on the scoreboard during most games and the reaction he gets is great.

My guess is he lands in Boston. They need a big man, well ALWAYS need big men and have open spots. I can see them signing him right after the deadline and letting it ride next year.

I agree. You have to give him credit. He could be just sitting at home. At least he is working on his education and trying to make himself better. I definately think he will get a shot. Every team can use a big body.

The Heat, Spurs, Cavaliers, Celtics, Mavericks, Kings, Pacers and Grizzlies have interest in Greg Oden.
He is said to be in a "good place" mentally now and is targeting a return to the court in training camp. The amount of teams isn't surprising since Oden's career averages are 9.4 points, 7.3 boards and 1.3 blocks per game. Oden hasn't played in a game for 3.5 years and is widely considered as one of the biggest busts in NBA history -- especially since Kevin Durant was taken with the following pick. Oden is likely to get a one-year deal and is in no rush to get anything done at this point.
Looks close

I agree. He will be cheap and possibly a great fit. They only need him for defense and he can so that. A big body to battle Roy Hibbert.

Very low risk, high reward move for any team willing to take a chance on him.
For a loaded team like Miami who would benefit from having a competent Center, but have gotten by without one just the same, it could only make them more dangerous.

Spurs would be a great move for Oden because of Pop's tendency to rest players. I would love to see him there as backup Center and stop using Diaw in that position.
Spurs just withdrew their qualifying offer to Gary Neal making him unrestricted and making it so they have a clearly open roster spot! Maybe they are waiving the spot at Oden??
Heat would have to be clear favourites though I think??
