Is it just me or ate inserts and parallels making a major comeback??? An example is with prizm, retro, certified, etc. the retractors and others appear to be more popular and selling better than done autos.,,,

its because as of recent card companies just totally flooded the marker with autos and jerseys. basically to the point where autos and jerseys were more common then base. haha

Dont say it too loud. The Patch/Auto collectors from Exquisite have been dreading this vision!! Hence all the hatred for Panini lately. THe hobby is once again cycling in interest.

Thankfully, by this time next year, card companies will also have murdered the insert market with a deluge of nonsensical inserts that rival the number of 6th round single color jersey swatch cards in every 200.00 box.

It may have been dumb, but I basically traded an Anthony Davis Prizm auto for a Kobe Prizm auto.

I get that the Davis might go up and be worth a good amount, but I don't like sticker auto's and am a huge Kobe fan, so it was an easy choice.

Basically if I pulled a Kobe auto instead of a Davis auto I would have been even happier with my box, so it was pretty cut and dry!

I think its a good trade. I think the Kobe auto could be an iconic Panini prizm card being the 1st ediction of a brand that might thrive.

Just a guess on how many kobe autos in Prizm .

Maybe I over estimated

I would love to see the market come back around to inserts/base rookies etc. it's just a cooler market in my opinion. the patches and auto's are cool but kinda boring at this point when you get all the scrubs and stupid ones.

I still can't for the life of me figure out why they keep putting stupid jerseys patches & auto's in products that clearly nobody would ever want......

they should refine it a bit to only star players in my opinion.

:)! Glad I'm not the only one that thinks that!

I actually got lucky refreshing Ebay for Prizm and picked up a Kobe base Prizm parallel for 9.99 buy it now. Pretty pleased with that price!

Now if only I could find a USA prizm parallel I'd be set!

Oj - I highly doubt those who collect low numbered (ie under 225 or even 100) print run patch autos are worried about the current popularity of low numbered shiny cards.

Personally i like exquisite cards because I think they are nice looking (most of them, anyway). And I would personally rather have an auto than a shiny card numbered out of 10. I also am not a huge fan of the prizm design (to each their own there, I guess).

See, I like auto's fine, but they were getting a bit out of hand with certain products like Retro that basically printed cards and slapped stickers on them. Prizm has sticker auto's too, but I like that they are at least presented nicely.

What I'm getting sick of is auto's being either rookie/90's players/legends

An auto set with people like

Kobe
Rose
Wade
Anthony
Durant
Pierce
Howard
Westbrook
Rondo
Parker
CP3

would be awesome.

And they need to stop printing so many!

From a collectors view, there is no issue. From a speculators viewpoint? For sure. If demand and popularity shift due to cycle of interest, speculators holding on to cards like exquisite hoping to make bank will start to ponder.

MJ Limited Logos a few months ago were considered "never to be seen again" and "All dried up". Yet there seem to many listings showing up every month. Same goes for other subsets that were in high demand and now seem to be cooling off.

THe cycle will happen, unfortunately some cards will take dips while others will take the hype train. Either way, hopefully those who collect during the downward turn are able to pick up for their collection at better prices.

I hear ya - I really only collect rc's so a different perspective. There are a lot of 'meh' veteran autos out there across all the companies that I can see a nicely done insert or lower numbered refractor outselling those for sure. But give me a nicely done auto over the insert any day.

Im the exact opposite. I collect Rc's. But I chase down base to every paralell version within my budget.

You take the Auto version of the Rc. Ill take the /10 paralell version of the Rc. Im no competition for yours and you are no competition for mine lol.

I guess I'd agree that a nice auto is tough to beat, and I've never been a "high end" collector so I don't own any exquisite auto's but so many of these auto's just seemed half-assed these days, that it's easy to get excited by some nice looking inserts that are tough to pull.

Call it a deal...although i would like to get a few nice low numbered Duncan rookies someday. Probably wait for him to retire and his stuff to go down even more.

Ha, that's why I traded my Anthony Davis auto! Amazing how cheap big men are!

I can't believe I was able to get a pretty nice Hakeem on card auto for like $25.

Crazy as it sounds its $2 cheaper to grade the inserts and no worries about a 9 or 8 autograph. Sounds kinda funny, but you get a 50 card or 100 card lot to grade and you save a couple hundred dollars, and to be honest if your into grading and your into making money grading, you dont see much difference in price jump between the two and actually inserts might even sell better than autos graded gem mint.

The autos and jersey cards coming out now are just so damn UGLY

UD killed Exquisite with ugly smudged autos and huge manufactured UGLY patches, Panini has 90% stickers and horrible autos off the sticker, the cards are just too busy at times.

I think inserts/parallels are becoming more popular because people would rather have a nice Gold Prizm #/10 than an unnumbered scrub rookie sticker auto... it just makes sense.

There are seemingly more autos guaranteed in every box right now, and that's a factor, but the auto checklists is probably a bigger one. A little bit less unknown players autos and more on-card autos from guys like Carmelo, D. Rose, CP3 would be a step in the right direction.

I clearly think 5 years down the road the parallels will carry/keep more value then the rookie autos.

Do you all agree that prizm is essentially the next topps chrome?

Most cards retain value so as long as their demand and popularity increase or sustain. Thats why limited numbered cards boogy from time to time. Otherwise without any demand, most prices stale or fall because they can be obtained without contest.

Timing is more essential the card itself. Prime examples are

Chronology canvas autos. This summer they started to boogy because a select few collectors were going after all autos needed to complete their set. They got into bidding wars and we saw prices paid on items that were 10x what the last one went for. THen you had everyone jump on board and suddenly like a set that garnered no attention for a good 2 yrs as the Set of the decade!! Once these deep pocket guys were done, prices levelled off. More importantly demand levelled off.

Tristan always advocates that you should buy the card and not the "Grade" when it comes to slabbed cards. I think in the same llines as that theory when it comes to bidding on certain cards. Know your bidder when bidding and buying, forget the card.
