I always see people saying not to keep cards in screwdowns, because they've said that terrible things can happen to your cards. I don't keep my cards in screwdowns, but I'm just curious what can happen to them. I know about the corners issue, but people make it seem like much worse can happen :D
Thanks

I keep all of my carmelo PC in screwdowns. Haven't had any issues with any of them, but it's a give and take.
Some people try to put them in a screwdown that isn't the right size and it's pressing the card against the front of the case. when they go to take it out months/years later the front has stuck and basically peels the card apart. have seen this happen once or twice. not to me, but to others.
I honestly haven't had a single issue. I like the looks of the screwdowns better than the one touches because there isn't that huge space at the top above the card for the magnet.

The cards stick to the surface of the case.
I moved all my valuable cards into top loaders with sleeves just to avoid this.
Even one touch cases, if you leave cards in the upright position the bottom edges get worn a little as gravity wins.

Mm I should do this too. About half my cards are in screwdowns

I think if you dont force the screw downs on wrong size cards they are fine. I keep all my PC in them. I used to use the magnets but one time I went to a show and opened the card door and a box fell out and cards were all over the place. It was a catastrophe , so I switched to screw downs and havnt had a problem.

I've seen people put a penny sleeve on top of the card to prevent it from touching the actual screwdown, that would solve the card sticking to the case problem, right?

I used to do this to all mines, but in one touches.
But for long term storage, especially on 35pt (Regular sized cards) top loaders and sleeves. Best way to store them and saves tons of space.

OHHHHHH those big screwdowns, sorry I thought your were talking about the reg pro mold and newer ones in my above post. Yeah those ones are vicious unless you use a penny sleeve.

I made the same mistake. No matter if you use the appropriate thickness, certain cards stick to the particular plastic used in magnetics/screwdowns. Other than the chrome type card adhesion to penny sleeves (no damage), I've never had a card damaged by a penny sleeve.
I once touted screwdowns and magnetics. I don't use them anymore.

Are the one screw cases any better in terms of not damaging cards than the old 4 screw cases?

irregardless of whether you use a screwdown or 4 screw, if the card is too thick for the case and pancaked against both sides, you are asking for trouble (especially if you intend to keep it in that case over a long period of time). I say this because I once had a card that was too thick for a 4 screw and left it in there for a couple years. When I tried removing it from the case, the entire front of the card was stuck to the top half of the case. very carefully I tried popping it off to minimize damage...when this didn't work I peeled it off and the whole top layer of the front of the card ripped off and was (and prob stilll is) stuck to the top half of the case.

another issue with screwdowns, especially the old school acrylic 4 screw ones; if there are imperfections on the surface of the case that stick out or there is any solid matter in there when it's screwed down; say goodbye to the surface of your card. it will be full of indentations from whatever was stuck in there when it got screwed down. i recently started using top loaders sealed in team bags for PC items.

the one screw screwdowns don't sandwich the cards between both sides though? Maybe it's just me, but i normally have a little extra room in there just to prevent it. I've had mine in there for almost the entire year i've been collecting and they still look the same as they did day one.

Man, after reading this... I think I'm gonna stick with the good old sleeve+toploader+team bag for all my cards
