View Full Version : Would a Ravens-Falcons Superbowl be the NFL's worst nightmare

How can you market this game. You can't name more than 5 players on the Falcons and you can't market Ray Lewis's retirement due to the murder in 2000. NFL will lose money if they can't get in a Pats, 49ers, or Seahawks.

It would probably be good as it would be Ray Lewis' last game of his career.

Obviously they can market Ray Lewis...he has been one of the most marketed players in the NFL over the last decade. The main marketing over SuperBowl XXV wasn't Trent Dilfer vs Kerry Collins

I'm pretty sure people could name Ryan, Douglas, Gonzalez, White, Jones, Rodgers, Turner
and can most people name 5+ players from every team?? Doubtful unless they are full of named QBs, WR and RB's
I don't think think this would be a terrible match-up you have the retirements of Gonzalez (possibly) and Lewis. You have a showdown to see who is the better QB from the 08 Draft Flacco or Ryan the 11' WR's in Smith and Jones.
Is it the Broncos/Pats vs. Packers game everyone in the NFL would of wanted no. But will it be bama vs lsu last year doubtful.

Cant market his retirement???????????? ESPN radio pretty much devoted an entire day to it the day after. You really cant name 5 players on Atlanta? Then maybe you should stay away from marketing the game.

LOl are you serious? There's more name players on those two teams than the 49ers and Seahawks, not to mention a matchup between the best TE in the game against one of the best LB in the game!

again, would the general public know them probably not. They know Lewis only really by the murder and the fact Trent Dilfer had to do the Disney commercial.

No. A Rams/Chiefs Super Bowl would probably be their worst nightmare. Assuming by 'nightmare', anything is actually possible and the fact that those teams aren't in the playoffs wouldn't matter.

If you don't know Ray Rice, Anquan Boldin, Ed Reed, Haloti Ngata, Terrell Suggs, Ray Lewis, Matt Ryan, Roddy White, Michael Turner, Tony Gonzalez, John Abraham, and Julio Jones than you shouldn't be watching football let alone post something like this thread here.

for some reason everyone here assumes that everyone who watches the superbowl knows football. The average superbowl watcher could not name 2-3 players on the falcons much less 5. It would be bad for the NFL, but the ravens are a fairly marketable team considering ray, on the other hand a Texans vs ATL game would be an absolute disaster.
The casual fan may not know many players on the 49ers for example, but the 49ers themselves are extremely marketable in the same way the cowboys are.

1. I think that the Super Bowl pretty much sells itself these days regardless of who's in it. Most football fans are going to watch it anyway because it's the biggest game of the year.
2. The people who aren't football fans are going to watch it anyway for the commercials. So, it doesn't really matter if they don't know 3 players from the team because they are already tuning in.

Exactly! NFL Marketing is the strongest of any of the major sport leagues and Super Bowl Sunday is celebrated like a national holiday.

And if he did do it who's to say it wasn't self defense? Let me guess your CSI? Lewis had to get home somehow, If I had a 200,000.00 car and I have blood on my clothes Im riding home in my whitey-tighties! Am I going to bag some ruined clothes up to take home and wash? Didn't Dez Bryant beat up his mom earlier this season? A bunch of stand up individuals on that team...
On a side note, I've always thought that Ray Lewis was the biggest phony, publicity hungry d-bag in the league. A great talent for sure, but there's nothing else I would rather see than Tom Brady ending his career. It should be an awesome game.

a falcons/ravens game would have the following...
2 retiring HOFers in their last game
2 HC's in their 5th year of coaching
2008's QB class head to head
Torrey Smith vs. Asante Samuel
Ed Reed vs. Matt Ryan
etc etc.
They can make stories out of anything.. and with 2 weeks believe me they will lol

For the record, Lewis didn't murder the guy, he just sat there and watched as his two buddies robbed and killed the guy. Lewis had all charges dropped because he testified against the two guys.
I prefer to read stories instead of take tidbits of information and assume the rest. Other interesting stories:
Rafael Septien arrested for "aggravated child molestation" of a 10 yr old girl.
Dwayne Goodrich arrested for 2 counts of vehicular manslaughter. The victims had pulled over to pull another person out of a burning vehicle, when Goodrich mowed them down.
Dexter Clinkscale arrested for sexual relations and molesting an 18 yr old boy.
Harvey Martin was arrested for beating his wife, after smoking crack all evening.
Lance Rentzel exposed himself to a 10 yr old girl, and wrote a book about it.
Thomas “Hollywood” Henderson was arrested for smoking crack with two under-aged teenage girls. He was accused of threatening them with a gun and sexually assaulting them. Henderson claims he gave the girls crack in exchange for consensual sex. One of the girls was described as a “paraplegic minor.” He pled “no contest’ and received a sentence of eight months in rehab then spent two years in prison.
Nate Newton arrested for transporting 213 lbs of weed. Arrested AGAIN one week later with an additional 175 lbs.
Josh Brent arrested after killing a teammate while drunk driving.
Sam Hurd violated his bond after failing two drug tests. He was arrested in Chicago for allegedly attempting to purchase and distribute large quantities of cocaine and marijuana.
And we haven't even got to Michael Irvin. Thank you Dallas Cowboys!

I went to a Raiders' game in Atlanta about 8 years ago. The worst sports' fans I have ever seen in my life wore dirty falcon uniforms. I left in the 4th quarter because of the abuse rained on me and my wife.
If it somehow happens, the showdown of the 2008 QB's drafted would be cool.

Dammit. Another thread ruined by facts.
As for the Super Bowl. These playoffs have been amazing. The games leading up to the Super Bowl build the stories. The Ravens coming back from near defeat as underdogs is building up drama to go along with Ray Lewis' final ride. 49ers have the rookie QB breaking records, Patriots have haters and Brady who is also breaking records. Falcons have Gonzalez and that come from behind win in the final seconds. The Super Bowl is popular for a reason, they know how to sell it and they will have no problem with any of the possible matchups.

What do you mean this game cant be marketable, you are having one of the best linebackers ever to play his last game in the super bowl and one of the best (the best imo) tight ends ever to play possibly in his last game in the super bowl as well.
As for the falcons
Matt Ryan, Julio Jones, Roddy White, Tony Gonzalez, Michael Turner, Jaquizz Rodgers, John Abraham, Asante Samuel, Duante Robinson, Sean Witherspoon and thats just off top of my head.
I personally think this would be a great matchup. However I would love to see ravens - San Fran...
