Sounds like Panini canceled everything but Limited and Prime (including Contenders, Dominion, and lots more), along with Upper Deck having nothing planned after SPGU (except for Series 2).

Could be a dry year for hockey products.

Great. First we have to wait for a season, and now we have to wait for new product.

Maybe they will get the rookie redemptions out quicker. ;-)

Where did you read that?

Don't sleep on UD 2, that should be loaded.

UD2 won't have the new RC crop either. This is a joint decision between the manufacturers and NHL/NHLPA. They won't allow one to use them and the other to get shut out, it's not in either party's interest.

Heard it from a LCS owner today, when I came in for SP Game Used.

Panini called around to their customers today.

no cup?

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOO...........

Nobody said anything about The Cup, but yeah I could see that getting the axe as well. I can't see UD investing a lot of resources into a high end product that many people won't be interested in without the almighty rookies. I'd rather see them save their jerseys, save the rookies, and make some super products next year.

See everyone next year......

Let's see if I start putting aside $50 a week now.....

On the plus side, maybe by then BO will actually iron out their differences with UD and we can order product here.

A killer folks- silly move in my opinion. The season lives on in shortened form but hockey card collecting will lie dormat till next fall, Hey maybe 2013-14 Score will be decent for a change....when does that release? late July early August?....:devil:

I think they are hoping the success of basketball products after the 2011-12 lockout in the nba will rollover to hockey.

Panini was seriously "stuck" with a boatload of unsellable 2010-11 basketball product. They dragged their feet on releasing 11/12 stuff so that they could continue to move more 2010-11 product when the season finally got going. Add in the hype of Linsanity and Panini dominated sales when they thought they were going to get stuck with excess inventory.

I think hockey is hoping that we will all be so desperate for hockey wax that we will buy up all the excess 2012-13 hockey that is sitting out there- stuff that sucks and doesn't sell. Once we eat up all the 12/13 crap, they are hoping, and are probably right, that we will continue our carnivorous attack on the new 2013/14 products, which will contain 2 years of rookies, which mirrors the "success" Panini basketball is having this year moving their products due to the presence of 2 rookie classes.

Purely the correct financial thing to do, but sucks for us.

I'm feeling no cup, ultimate or sp authentic this year - it wouldn't be worth it for any to buy it.

OK, this kills announcement kills hockey products for the rest of the year. 2013-14 should be good, but MacKinnon and Yapukov are not Sid & Alex.

This means Chris Kreider just became Andrew Luck for hockey this season. I expect his stuff to climb due to scarcity for sure

If they aren't putting any more rookies in this years products what rookies will be in UD Series 2? They might as well just cancel that too if there isn't going to be any rookie cards.

That sucks for this year's products, but everyone is going to go absolutely nuts on next year's releases.

It is either Series 2 will have the rookies or next year's Series 1 will be super loaded!!!!

From that Beckett article it pretty much says next years Series 1 will have all the big rookies from this year. That means that UD Series 2 is going to be horrible because they won't have any rookies to put in the set. I wouldn't be surprised to see UD eventually cancel Series 2.

Judging from Panini's handling of this year's double rookie class for basketball, it's hard to have hope for hockey. You really want autos of 4 scrub rookies in a box?

Anyone jump on any of those amazing job opportunities at Panini yet? A mind blowing 13 bucks an hour to work for a multi million dollar company as a photo editor. What a joke.
